Our Santa Barbara Public Library
is More Than Books!

The Santa Barbara Public Library kicked off SB Reads 2022 on October 6th with a 1st Thursday art show, Through Many Windows: A World Reimagined. The art show, displayed at the Central Library during the month of October, featured over 20 local artists who envision their own world or another future, possible world, catastrophic or otherwise, and answer the question: “What if?”

Community members had the opportunity to meet the artists and receive a free copy of this year’s SB Reads title The Fifth Season by N.K Jemison, over 300 copies were distributed.

Additionally, community members received a free “More Than Books” T-shirt provided by the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation. More than 200 shirts were passed out and community members including Mayor Randy Rowse came together to celebrate the message that the Santa Barbara Public Library is More Than Books.

“While SB Reads is a community reading program that inspires us all to read the same book at the same time, it is more than that. It is an opportunity for Santa Barbara to come together around the written word for community conversations, art, an all ages geology science fair, a celebration of creativity, and more!” shared Jessica Cadiente, Library Director.

SB Reads 2022 Thank You Event

The Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation celebrated the Santa Barbara Public Library and the end of SB Reads on October 23rd. The event shared a taste of the various programs provided during SB Reads and ended with a Q&A with some of the artists featured in the Through Many Windows: A World Reimagined exhibition.
