From the coach's desk.
Our next two-month session of classes is about to begin and I want to take a quick moment to bring your attention to the "more' in WoW Power Walking and more. The outdoor walking workout will always be my first great love, of course. It is the thing that unreservedly makes me feel good. Still, as a 32-year veteran fitness instructor I know that we need to challenge ourselves with other aspects of movement and mindfulness. This is why I have a passion for teaching strength training, as well as yoga asanas, flow, breath exercises and meditation. Since March of 2020, I have been offering livestream strength workouts and yoga practices. I admit that I am surprised at my newfound passion for the livestream class. For so long I thought it was essential that I be in the room with people to assist with alignment and form. It's been a bit of an ego adjustment (ha!), but I have come to trust that you are not likely to injure yourself by doing a workout without my immediate guidance on every angle of your joints or position of your limbs! You really are your best guru. What is helpful is reliable cueing and the immediacy of real-time motivation to do a workout.
Livestream is liberating. People show up exactly because no one corrects them! Well, at least because no one is looking! Not every movement or yoga pose has to be perfect. If you read my last newsletter, think of it as a kind of wabi sabi approach to workouts. The point is to show up. It is the consistent showing up that changes your life over time.
While the anonymity of livestream can be liberating, it still provides an opportunity to build community. As the coach, I always leave time for chatting and questions. Granted that aspect is not as easy as in-person classes but think about the number of times you may have gone to a fitness class in person, gone into the class and left without speaking to a single person. Isn't it better to do that without all the driving required to get there?
Especially as we add years to our lives, we must stay strong and we must stay mobile with good range of motion through as many joints as possible. If you are looking for some consistency in achieving this strength and range of motion, I encourage you to try one, or a few, of my livestream programs which begin next week for seven weeks.
Strength workouts are held Mon/Wed/Fri from 7-7:30amET
Easy Flow Yoga practices are held Mondays, 9-9:45amET
Gentle Hatha practices are offered Wednesdays, 9-9:45amET
Hatha practices are offered Fridays, 9-945amET.
If you'd like a little taste of the three most common aspects of yoga (physical poses and movement, breath, meditation) in a mini, at-home retreat, the early bird pricing deadline for the December Delight 6-hour livestream event the weekend of Dec 2-4, is next Tuesday, November 1 at midnight.
