Efforts to normalise how British society sees Black hair moved a step closer with Britain's equality watchdog announcing on 22 October that schoolchildren should not be prevented from wearing natural hairstyles in school.
Meanwhile, in the USA, the CROWN Act, a movement which aims to prohibit discrimination based on natural and protective hairstyles, secured support in the State of Massachusetts. The movement is being spearheaded by Adjoa Asamoah, who was an advisor on Joe Biden's campaign and in augural committee.

Below, in other news, we brief you on our October highlights and what you can expect during November.

UK: Watch an African film
Film Africa is back and includes some exciting releases from Africans on the Continent and in the Diaspora. On Saturday 29 October, I went to see Wahala Dey Shorts - a series of short films, which included 'Untitled' by award-wining animator Comfort Arthur (pictured).

Her animation was gripping accounts of sexual abuse by anonymous women. Learn more about Comfort io our podcast and in our 'Identity' issue too.

If you are in London or have access to BFI online, check out a film or two.
