Housing Bikes Pedestrians

Welcome to the Livable Cville
November 2022 newsletter!

Livable Cville is a local all-volunteer organization. We advocate for policies to build an inclusive Charlottesville area with affordable housing, sustainable transportation, and healthy neighborhoods welcoming to all.

In this edition we share upcoming events where you can show up, introduce an exciting solar energy project we endorse, recap recent events, highlight ways you can speak out, and share how you can help out.

We appreciate your interest in creating a livable, thriving Charlottesville for all current and future residents! Can you believe it? The newsletter audience has doubled since the inaugural issue in August!

Are you enjoying our newsletters? Please forward to a friend or neighbor. Did something you read strike a chord with you? Do you have any ideas for future events or advocacy? Hit reply and let us know what you think.

Show Up!

Uninformed discussions and misunderstandings of homelessness in the Charlottesville area perpetuate housing insecurity. Register now for an informative webinar to:

  • Hear from local experts about our unhoused and unsheltered neighbors, and

  • Learn more about of the causes of homelessness, the people impacted by it, and solutions our community can achieve.

Our speakers will also consider how these issues relate to the Cville Plans process. A Q&A period will allow for further discussion.

We endorse the Woodridge Solar project!

From 1931 to 2018 the Bremo Power Station in Fluvanna County generated electricity for our area using greenhouse-gas emitting coal and gas. The now demolished plant left one positive legacy—room on the power grid for clean energy!

Woodridge Solar, a proposed large-scale clean energy project in southeastern Albemarle County, has a unique potential to generate enough solar-powered electricity for at least 20,000 local households, making a significant contribution to the county’s climate action goals.

Livable Cville volunteers have prepared an informative guide to this proposed project. Click through to learn more, including how this clear-cut timberland would be rehabilitated to quality for the Virginia Pollinator Smart program.

October eBike Demo Day

Over 60 people came together at Meade Park for the October eBike Demo Day. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event a great success: eBike-curious riders, eager eBike-owner hosts, members of the Charlottesville Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, valuable volunteers, and our intrepid organizers! Also, thank you to Wegmans for the refreshments, to Krispy Kreme for the donuts, and to Gretchen Stenger of the CBS 19 news team for news coverage of the event.

Happy Birthday to our friends at C3!

We had a great time helping Charlottesville’s Community Climate Collaborative celebrate its fifth birthday! Thank you to everyone who came by to say hello as well as our volunteer team who warmly greeted folks.
