World Teachers' Day

With appreciation for all the teachers in Steiner schools in Australia:

If a school is to be founded and sustained, vision is needed, and a warm-hearted courage, and a long will.

We want to help young people develop their powers in their own way according to the laws of their own being. In us must be a love for what develops towards the future. We must let them spread their wings and perhaps they will bear us to great new realms.

-Sylvia Brose, first founding Steiner teacher in Australia

To all teachers carrying this work each and every day
Happy World Teachers' Day!

World Teachers’ Day is an annual event celebrated on different dates across the globe. This year it will be celebrated on 28 October 2022 in NSW. World Teachers’ Day is an opportunity to celebrate the 160,000+ hardworking and dedicated primary, secondary and early childhood teachers in NSW.
Ways to show your support celebrating quality teaching and inspirational teachers:

  • Thank a teacher in person and let them know you appreciate the work they do.
  • If you are working as a teacher you might want to thank a colleague or a teacher past or present who might have inspired you.
Building the Physical Body of Chrysalis School - Part 2
Another progression that can be found throughout the school is in the use of the construction materials for each level. The Kindy and 1,2,3 level are built from stone (natural) then the library building and kitchen level are mud brick (made on site with local earth) finally then Besser block for the High School Technics - Man made with concrete, made off site. (This is now the Class 8 room, high school library and textiles room)
Viewed as a whole, the buildings of Chrysalis School have a gesture of incarnation from above to below. In the same way as the child is born in the heavens and gradually incarnates into its physical body, thus the Kindergarten, where the children are still more heavenly connected, is physically higher up the hill than the high school. The Kindergarten has its own set of laws for the 1-7 year old phase. Not only does it inhabit a separate physical space from the other buildings but the design of the Kindergarten is based on a spiral which contrasts to the elliptical (closed curve) gesture employed in the design of the primary school buildings for the 7-14 year old phase. Classes 1, 2 and 3 are clustered together, reflecting that in this stage the group-soul forces are strong. In Classes 4 and 5 we consecutively have the most problematic and the most joyous life-filled years of childhood, where, by looking more out into the world and more inwardly in contemplation, the individuality of each child is given its second strengthening. The library space signifies physically a place for this second sacred birth. The library doors that lie between Classes 4 and 5 signify the manifold layers that are necessary to understand the deeper mysteries in life – and that on the inside of every mystery there are beings larger/wiser than us.
Music Assembly
Tuesday was our last music assembly for the year and it didn't disappoint. There were so many many wonderful performances. Congratulations to all of our hard working and talented students, our fantastic music staff and a big thank you to all the parents for your encouragement and support!

We also slipped in a surprise birthday celebration on the day,
Happy Birthday Luke!
Bus Support

Chrysalis would like to introduce Laura who will be assisting with Bus Support over the next couple of weeks. Laura will be on Bus 3 for a mix of morning and afternoon runs, if you see her around please say hi.
New Chrysalis School App
The new Chrysalis App has a comprehensive suite of communication tools and centralises forms and notifications for families.

Some features of the app include:
- absentee notification
- bus changes
- permission forms

These three functions allow for one tap responses, alleviating the need for parents to notify the school via email.

Additional features include:
- the Chrysalis calendar
- newsletter library
- news announcements

Again, simplifying engagement with school happenings for families. Parents can select which class announcements they wish to receive, thus ensuring relevant information is made available without saturation.

Strategic Planning Session

In order to provide longer term guidance to the School in fulfilling our Mission and Vision, the School is presently undergoing our strategic planning.

An important part of this process is creating a vision of how the future of Chrysalis will be. To achieve this we engage with all stakeholders including management, staff and community.

We are offering members of the community an opportunity to be part of this process via a strategic visioning workshop. It will run from 5:30pm - 7:30pm at the Bellingen Youth Hub on Tuesday 15 November 2022.

We encourage all members of our community to attend and contribute to the future of the School.
Please RSVP to admin@chrysalis.nsw.edu.au

Bus Behaviour

We would like to take this opportunity to remind the Community that unacceptable behaviours on the bus will not be tolerated. We need to ensure the safety of the bus driver and the passengers and promote a calm manner. These include behaviours such as:
  • Throwing items
  • Removing seatbelts or refusing to wear seatbelts
  • Moving around the bus whilst in transit
  • Eating on the bus
  • Anti-social behaviour (eg hitting, pulling hair, spitting, bullying, teasing, etc)
In instances where such behaviours are in evidence, the child undertaking these will be suspended from travelling on the bus for three days. Should this behaviour be repeated, then the consequences will be escalated accordingly. We continue to work with the bus companies to maintain a safe and composed environment for the journey to and from school.
Notice of Intention to Withdraw...
If you are intending to withdraw your child/ren for 2023, please notify the office in writing by Monday 31 October, as one term's notice is required or a withdrawal fee of one term's fees will apply for each child. Further information on the school's policy can be found here.
