Canisius Celebrates Inauguration of President Steve K. Stoute
Last Saturday, Canisius College capped off a week-long series of inauguration events with the installation of President Steve K. Stoute (pictured left; photo by Tom Wolf for Canisius). Click here to watch a recording of the ceremony.

Excerpts from President Stoute's inauguration speech were featured in The Buffalo News, as well as Buffalo's NBC affiliate. All of us at AJCU congratulate President Stoute and the Canisius community!
This fall's inauguration season will continue next week, when Loyola University Chicago inaugurates Dr. Mark C. Reed as its 25th president. Click here to watch the livestream on Thursday, November 3 at 3:00PM ET / 2:00PM CT. We will share highlights of President Reed's inauguration in next week's issue of AJCU Higher Ed News.
AJCU Conferences Promote Collaboration & Scholarship
There's a lot of collaboration happening these days between members of our AJCU Conferences! Here are some recent highlights:
  • Boston College recently hosted the AJCU Education Deans, whose members are working to raise national interest in the teaching profession, through an upcoming video PSA and a grant-funded project to increase diversity; click here to learn more. (BC also served as host to another AJCU Conference this week: Human Resources Directors!)
  • Several members of the Jesuit Diverse Nursing Faculty Network recently co-authored an article on "Exploring alternative forms of scholarship for nurse educators' success" for the Journal of Professional Nursing. The authors are nursing faculty from Gonzaga University, Loyola University Chicago, Loyola University New Orleans and Seattle University; click here to learn more.
  • And this month, Marquette University has also served as a two-time host to AJCU Conferences! This week, members of the AJCU Mission & Identity Conference are meeting on campus, while three weeks ago, the AJCU Chief Academic Officers gathered there together. Many thanks to CAO Chair Thomas Poon of Loyola Marymount University for sharing this great photo with us!
New Website Redesign Survey: AJCU Requests Your Feedback!
It's been seven years since the AJCU website (ajcunet.edu) last underwent a redesign and we are overdue for a new one! In that time, our association has experienced significant growth and change, and we are excited to be working with a design firm that will help us make the website more accessible and relevant to the needs of our schools, with a much-improved user experience.

In order to help us make the website as user-friendly as possible, we seek your feedback! Please share your comments and suggestions by completing the following (short!) survey by Friday, November 4: surveymonkey.com/r/ajcupublicsurvey. Many thanks!
News from Jesuit Colleges & Universities
Georgetown University announced a new $400K fund to support community-based projects related to the descendants of enslaved men and women in the 1800s; Santa Clara University launched a new Silicon Valley Power Sustainable Futures Program to support students interested in careers in sustainability; the Loyola University New Orleans student newspaper was named by the Society of Professional Journalists as "Best All-Around" among small college newspapers; a Fordham University theology professor was selected to serve on a Vatican project on "Doing Theology from the Existential Peripheries"; Saint Louis University consecrated the chapel within its new Jesuit Center; and Loyola Marymount University announced a series of events beginning next week to mark Ignatian Heritage Month.

With Election Day just under two weeks away, we have two new civic-related news items to share: Marquette University launched a voting resource page and a professor from The University of Scranton shared tips for parents to discuss politics with children for Scranton's local CBS affiliate.

Last weekend, hundreds of students from Jesuit colleges, universities and high schools gathered in Washington, D.C. for the 25th anniversary of the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, sponsored by the Ignatian Solidarity Network. We marked the occasion by attending IFJT in-person and remembering the following quote from a homily delivered at the Teach-In in 2009, by former AJCU president, Rev. Charles L. Currie, S.J.:
We will remember Fr. Currie and all those who have gone before us during All Souls Day (November 2), which will be observed with Masses on Jesuit campuses, including Saint Louis University and The University of Scranton. And in honor of All Saints Day (November 1), several schools are displaying art depicting saints and Biblical scenes both in-person (Boston College, Regis University) and online (Loyola Marymount University).

Finally, we want to share an update from our colleagues at The Beijing Center: "Travel restrictions and logistical obstacles have caused The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies, the only Jesuit education center in the Chinese mainland, to declare that the Spring 2023 semester will not herald the return of international short-term study abroad students. 'This decision is especially disappointing to have to make since we are marking our 25th anniversary next year,' said Dr. Simon Koo, executive director of The Beijing Center (TBC). 'But we are an educational and research institution with strong Jesuit values, and that means putting our students’ health and experiences over everything else.' Click here to learn more.
Upcoming Events Across the Jesuit Network
Here's what's happening in-person (on-campus and off) throughout November: Here what's happening online:
Finally, we were very happy to receive this great photo of #JesuitEducated alumni who attended last weekend's Jesuit Friends and Alumni Mass in Philadelphia from our friend, Don DiJulia, former athletic director at Saint Joseph's University. AMDG!

Have a great weekend, and stay tuned for more great Jesuit alumni events in upcoming issues of AJCU Higher Ed News!
