* Member of the OTW Kids Program
In 2020, The Workshop lost one its own--an ardent supporter and sweet gentle lady, Marianne McCarthy.  Marianne contributed to our newsletter, wrote articles and letters of support and even appeared on stage in a handful of shows, including masterfully portraying Daisy in "Driving Miss Daisy". But, she spent most of her time with the Workshop in her favorite front row aisle seat at classes, rehearsals and performances of the kids' program.  She would attend multiple performances of their shows and often brought small presents and treats for the casts. The kids lovingly called her “The Knitting Lady” (although what she did was crochet).
This week we were surprised to learn that Marianne had left a bequest in her will to The Workshop. So even though her special theater seat is empty, she is still sending her loving support—especially to the kids.

Thanks Marianne— we miss you and will never forget you.

No non-profit organization can continue its work in a community without community support and support from those who have benefited from the program.
We have just received a generous contribution from a former “Workshop Kid” who has a successful career outside of the world of the arts.  He writes “… 25 years later I still look fondly on my time with you, which has helped me in so many ways in my professional career.”
We are grateful for both the generous donation and especially for letting us know that what we offer kids has value and positive influence both in and out of the arts and beyond the immediate time kids spend with us.
HOW IT ALL STARTED Part 2

Major Activities in the Community

1)       A Children’s Workshop
2)      A Full Season of Community Theatre Shows
3)       String Festival for Middle and High School Students
4)       Shakespeare in the Park

Community Series-  A Full Season of Community Theatre Shows

Each season, The Workshop presents at least 4 major productions at the Washington Street Theater. We choose at least one presentation which uses students who are part of our kids’ program to act in the shows and to do tech for the production.   This year, we will present "Miracle on 34th Street" with our high school class students as Santa's Elves, and middle school students as visitors to Santa at Macy's. Students also  play the  mailmen delivering letters to Santa.  A total  of 10 students will be in the performance of the show.
