Join the UR Ecochallenge!
Celebrate Aotearoa New Zealand during
International Education Week
November 14-18, 2022
Brought to you by the Office of International Education
& Office for Sustainability
There’s no better way to celebrate the wonder and beauty of this planet than by caring for our own little part of it. During this year’s International Education Week, celebrate sustainability in Aotearoa New Zealand by participating in the UR Ecochallenge. It’s a local-to-global challenge! Our themes this year include well-being, biodiversity and conservation, food, community and environmental justice, and living with less.
You can join the online challenge as an individual or as a team. Earn points by attending events, learning about sustainability, and taking environmentally responsible actions each day. The individuals with the top three point totals, the team with the top number of points per capita, and the overall team with the top number of points will receive a prize.

Exploring Sustainability Through
Living-Learning Communities
Earth Lodge is a living-learning community focused on supporting and catalyzing student’s roles as active agents for cultivating a better world. Through an immersive and community-based exploration of sustainability, environmental justice, and social change, we will explore questions like:
- What is your vision for a better world?
- How does social change happen?
- What role can you play in creating positive change in the world?
- How can we co-create the conditions for communities to thrive?
Students will take ownership and agency over the trajectory of the group, based off participants interests in sustainability, environmental studies, and social change. Earth Lodge is an intentional shared living experience that moves students beyond the limits of the traditional classroom to enhance learning and promote interdisciplinary engagement and discussion.
