Weekly Encouragement

For God so loved...

God-kind love (Agapeo in the Greek) is an active love.  It is the love that moves things. It is the love that gives of self, and is best modeled for us in John 3:16, God loved, therefore He gave.  Understanding this love is to relate to God and others according to this benevolent love.

Jesus used this word for love when He instructed His followers to “love” their enemies not just their neighbors or friends.  The ability to give to those that don’t deserve it is a great expression of the love of God.  This can be difficult in our sense of justice and our desire to make people pay for their sins.

A common thread in the church is that we withhold our lives, our love, and our compassion from those that have hurt us, wounded us, and have treated us unfairly. God never excuses bad behavior and harmful actions, but He does require us to trust Him enough to love our enemies.

This is the core message of generosity that God longs for us to grasp.  Giving away love is because of His supply, not our own. Our ability to love those who have hurt us is a divine gift because of His love in us.  Too often, we miss our destiny because we are holding onto unforgiveness and withholding Agape love.  Trust the Lord and choose to step into love by faith!
