Internal Postdoc Openings

JOANNA MATTIS LAB
The Mattis lab in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to investigate circuit dysfunction in a rodent model of epilepsy (mattislab.org). Prior experience with electrophysiology (slice and/or in vivo), optogenetics, two-photon calcium imaging, data analysis, or other related techniques is preferred. Interested applicants should contact Dr. Mattis by email.

HUDETZ LAB
The laboratory of Dr. Anthony Hudetz in the Department of Anesthesiology, Center for Consciousness Science is seeking full-time postdoctoral fellow to participate in ongoing investigation of the neuronal mechanism of consciousness and anesthesia.
The research involves experimental electrophysiology in rodents, microelectrode array recording, microstimulation, optogenetics, and computational modeling.  Prior experience in systems or computational neuroscience, signal processing, and MATLAB programming is required.  Applicants with Ph.D. in neuroscience, physics, or biomedical engineering are encouraged to apply. For further detail contact ahudetz@med.umich.edu

DAVID BRANG/ZHONGMING LIU LAB
We are seeking a full-time post-doctoral research fellow to study computational and neuroscientific models of perception and cognition. The research fellow will be jointly supervised by Drs. David Brang (https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/brang-lab/) and Zhongming Liu (https://libi.engin.umich.edu). The goal of this collaboration is to build computational models of cognitive and perceptual processes using data from intracranial recordings in patients with epilepsy or a brain tumor (iEEG/ECoG). In addition to answering basic scientific questions, this research seeks to improve our understanding of brain tumor physiology to develop novel treatments and neural prostheses in collaboration with Dr. Shawn Hervey-Jumper at UC San Francisco Medical Center (https://herveyjumperlab.ucsf.edu). The successful applicant will also have freedom to conduct additional research based on their interests, using a variety of methods -- iEEG, fMRI, DTI, lesion mapping, and EEG. The ideal start date is from spring to fall 2022 and the position is expected to last for at least two years, with the possibility of extension for subsequent years. Please contact Dr. David Brang (djbrang@umich.edu) with questions or to apply.

KEVIN JONES LAB
The Jones lab in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan is seeking an accomplished and motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in an externally supported research project to investigate physiological, molecular, and cellular mechanisms in a rodent model of schizophrenia.  Apply HERE.

ROBERTS LAB
The Roberts Lab is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to investigate how neural circuits in the central auditory system perform computations essential for processing speech and other vocalizations. For more information, please contact Michael Roberts.

AHMED and SARTER LAB

The labs of Drs. Omar Ahmed (http://www.omarlab.org/) and Martin Sarter (https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/msarter/) at the University of Michigan are seeking two outstanding, driven postdoctoral fellows for research on a newly funded, five-year project on cortico-striatal circuitry and the integration of cognitive, spatial and motor functions. Together, the two labs combine state-of-the art methods and research approaches to conduct systems and behavioral neuroscience research. Our labs have enjoyed a record of continuous, high productivity and successful pre- and postdoctoral training. Our joint research is embedded in a larger, well-funded multi-disciplinary research program aimed at determining the neuronal circuitry underlying complex movement disorders in Parkinson’s disease. Therefore, trainees and their research will benefit from intense interactions with clinical researchers conducting converging research in patients. We seek trainees with prior training in systems and behavioral neuroscience in rodents and who aspire to a productive and visible career. For more information please contact Omar or Martin (ojahmed@umich.edu; msarter@umich.edu).

LI  LAB
The laboratory of Dr. Peng Li at the Life Sciences Institute is seeking postdoctoral fellows to study neural control of breathing. The Li lab uses a combination of state-of-the-art approaches, including viral circuit tracing, optogenetics, chemogenetics, pharmacology, single cell RNAseq, and functional imaging, to dissect the heterogeneity and functions of neuronal populations in the breathing control circuit, and to identify the mechanism underlying the interactions between breathing behaviors and emotional and physiological states (http://www.lsi.umich.edu/labs/peng-li-lab). Interested applicants please contact penglium@umich.edu

LOWENSTEIN LAB

RAPHAEL LAB
Postdoctoral position is available for gene editing of auditory neurons in cultured explants and in vivo. Please contact Yehoash Raphael for more information.

BORJIGIN LAB
Please email Dr. Borjigin directly for more information.
