The votes are in: 89% of staff express No Confidence in HTH Leadership

An overwhelming majority of High Tech staff have voted to support a Resolution of No Confidence in the High Tech High Board of Directors. A resounding 89.23% of certificated staff no longer has confidence in the High Tech High Board of Trustees’ ability to lead our schools in a manner that aligns with its design principle of Equity, Personalization, Authentic Work, and Collaborative Design.

Despite nearly 11 months of bargaining, certificated staff have yet to reach agreement on a union contract due to the Board’s refusal to budge on a fair grievance procedure. As both sides come to the table again this coming week, HTH educators have called on the Board to end the delay and "direct their bargaining team to immediately accept our proposal for a finalized contract.”

Introducing additions to our union leadership

Along with voting on the No Confidence resolution, HTEC also chose colleagues to represent and lead our union. Both certificated and classified staff across all our schools held elections to fill vacant officer positions and new leadership positions added on to represent our new classified bargaining unit.

We are thrilled to introduce your newest democratically elected leaders:
Officers:
  • Michael Chin (HTHPL) - Treasurer, Classified + Certificated
  • Claire Deken (HTe) - Secretary, Certificated
Classified Unit - Site Representatives
  • Daniel Ortiz (HTHM) - Mesa Site Representative
  • Gregory Wilson (HTM) - Point Loma Site Representative
  • Jocelyn Flores (HTHNC) - North County Site Representative
Classified Unit - Bargaining Team
  • Ernesto Gonzalez (HTMCV) - Chula Vista
  • Jocelyn Flores (HTHNC) - North County
HTEC would like to thank all of the candidates that participated in this election for their willingness to support the union and strengthen our democratic structures.

Staff shared their voice by voting. Now it’s time for the whole community to add their voices to say: HTH educators need a fair contract!

On November 1st, HTEC and HTH return to the bargaining table. A fair and transparent process for grievance, including a neutral arbiter, is a priority to staff. We need to all show up to demand the HTH Board accept the union’s proposals and get teachers a fair contract now!

On this November 1st bargaining day, we will be rallying across our schools:
  • What? Rallies to support our teachers & staff!
  • Who? Staff, families, and community members at all HTH schools!
  • When? Tuesday, November 1st
  • Where? See here for exact times and locations for each Village (Our biggest rally will be at Point Loma, as there are the most schools there and that is where central offices are)
  • How? Show up, wear BLUE, and support staff in their fight for a fair contract! (For those who weren't at our May rallies, check out some inspiration here)

Are you still not quite sure why our union is so adamant about the need for fair grievance and arbitration? Are you hearing questions about why we think the CEO should not be the final arbiter of grievances? Please check out the facts behind some of the common myths we have heard:
