Charles Schulz, "Peanuts"

Welcome, Music Munchers!

This week we will be hearing "In Seven Days", by the British Composer Thomas Adès.

Written for piano and orchestra, the piece has seven movements - each which describe one day in the creation of the world, according to the Bible. To augment the impact of the piece, Adès collaborated with the video artist Tal Rosner to create what we call a 'multi-media' experience.
Composers are often obsessed with numbers in music, and will try to hide numbers inside of pieces, and this piece is a great example of that obsession! Not only are there seven movements, but the number seven shows up all across the score, including the time signature (seven-four), and many of the figures (which include seven notes). :-)

This performance features the London Sinfonietta, Rolf Hind on the piano, and Adès conducting. Enjoy!
