Student Peacemaking Fellowships
Applications due Monday February 20, 2023

Marquette undergraduate and graduate students can apply for up to $2,500 to deepen their understanding of nonviolence and social change by engaging in local or global peacemaking efforts. Funding is for summer projects. Learn more about the fellowship program.

We encourage students to use their creativity when designing a fellowship project. While all projects are required to advance nonviolent peacemaking, we recognize that peacemaking is an interdisciplinary field that allows for broad application.

We highly recommend students to meet with Chris Jeske to share their interest in a fellowship and to discuss their proposed project before completing the application.

Choose from one of the following project designs:

  • Create a self-designed, self-managed project
  • Intern with an established peacemaking or community organization
  • Conduct research independently or as part of a student-faculty partnership
  • Participate in a structured peace-building program or delegation
Please complete the online form to applyApplications are due February 20, 2023.

Recommendations of the Month
Book: Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
Just Mercy is a memoir written by Bryan Stevenson about his decades helping marginalized Americans who have been unfairly and harshly punished by the U.S. criminal justice system, which disproportionately targets people of color and poor people.

At the heart of Just Mercy is the story of Walter McMillian, a Black man who was framed for the murder of a girl named Ronda Morrison, convicted, and sent to death row.

Stevenson alternates chapters about Walter with his personal reflections on our country’s history with racial disparity and issues around incarceration. Stevenson highlights other groups of vulnerable people who have been victimized by the criminal justice system and shares the stories of the prisoners he has helped over the years.
