Pastor’s Note
This coming week is Thanksgiving; a time set aside to celebrate and be thankful for the many blessings in our lives. We thank the Lord for our families, for our jobs, for food on our tables, and roofs over our heads. We thank God for the land we live in, for good health (or relatively good health). We thank God for our country and the countless men and women who give of themselves to protect us. The list can go on and on and on. All of these are things we need to be thankful for, but I feel we forget many times to just thank God for being God.
What I mean is we are thankful what He provides for us, yet we forget to thank Him for who He is. Are we thankful that He is kind? Just? Loving? Merciful? Gracious? All powerful and all knowing? Do we thank Him for His compassion and slowness to anger? All He does for us is so that we can know He is the Lord God Almighty. He is worthy to be exalted and praised, honored and magnified. His wrath, that we deserve, has been satisfied in the cross Jesus died on. His anger has been poured out in His love and now we are reconciled to Him by His own acts of mercy. This is why we are grateful and why we should live lives for His glory.
We must thank God because He is with us always. He will never leave us nor forsake us. So when the storms of life get going, our thankfulness will hold us to the anchor that can never be moved. Thank you, God, for who you are and for your great love that endures forever! Take a moment and write out all the ways you are thankful for who God is, and see how your heart fills with joy and praise and changes your outlook on everything around you. Let us be thankful for all God has given us, but let us be most thankful that He gave us Himself.
In His Arms,
Pastor Ari
