In mid-October, we held our JFS Housing event attended by current and past JFS clients at the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House. Presentations from Shelley Rivkin, VP, Local and Global Engagement Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver and Mara Shnay, housing, food security and disability advocate spoke on the recent housing statistics and stories of lived experiences from Jewish community members. The event was an important opportunity to have meaningful dialogue on the housing crisis, while also hearing so many great ideas and suggestions from our community on this issue.
This consultative process was our first step in assessing our housing supports and how they align with our community's needs. Stay tuned for more updates over the next few months.

Help Brighten a Home this Hanukkah
|
|
Hanukkah is coming up and our Food Security team is looking for donations of candles to include in their delivery bags in the coming weeks. We have partnered with Geenees, an online shopping site where your purchase will directly be sent to our office. Your gift of candles will help so many celebrate Hanukkah this year, bringing light, happiness and love to their home. Deadline December 9. Please note, to shop via your mobile you will need to download the Geenees app.

On December 8, we are hosting another JFS Community Kitchen event, by donation. This time we will be making latkes together. What makes this unique is that latkes will be baked instead of fried. You’ll be surprised at how good it is. Batches will be made and sold at the JCC Holiday Market with all funds donated back to JFS. Don’t worry, all participants will get a take-home package to enjoy at home.
