Our Call to Creative Community
This weekend, I'll be hosting a number of events and gatherings that connect people together. Overall, it's my hope to be a champion for creative community and collaborative unity. In addition to being a CIVA Advisory Board Member, I serve in leadership at Saddleback Visual Arts, with Mariners Arts, and have been a friend of Mercy Arts and the Grove Center for Arts & Media.

Each of these is a distinct ministry or organization, but something we all share is the belief that God is creative and we reflect him as we have been created in his image. This means that who we are and what we make has value, deepened in our call to creative community.
The video linked below invites us into these concepts. I made it for the 2018 Creative Church Arts Conference and it's still just as powerful today. From the beginning, God has been speaking forth and calling us into creativity.

There's Still Time to Join Creative Community!
This Weekend is "
CIVA in SoCal" Nov 19 + 20
Whether you're simply interested in seeing new spaces, or you want to foster creativity community yourself, you're invited to join me, CIVA members, and friends from SoCal for any or all of this weekend's events. I've planned multiple entry points for this CIVA in SoCal weekend and would love to have you join!
Just sign up for any specific events or for all of them through the link above. All are welcome. Note that the events are free, including coffee and snacks on Saturday at the CoCreate Arts Center. (The exception for this is Sunday's lunch, purchased on your own from our chosen location). When signing up, you're welcome to make an optional donation to CIVA.

Next week, we're in the final five mysteries of 20 Days of Gratitude. Whether you have already followed along, or will have more time with the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, you're welcome to join in for this ecumenical devotional.

I've both enjoyed and been inspired as I've shared the images and meditations. You'll find a few of the art pieces pictured above: (Top) Denise Weyhrich, Jorge DeLeon, Billy Joe Miller and Nathan Weick, Kyong Boon Oh; (Bottom) Phillip Johnson, Katherine Leith, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and David Harrington. Encounter all the posts on Instagram here @hiddenleaven.

Each day is an invitation to respond with creativity or meditation. Your entry point can be to the day's mystery, the scripture verses, or the fruit listed in the guide (see the linked document).

One More Invite...
Mariners Arts Gathering: Monday, Nov. 21
On Monday night, continuing with the Pop-up Art Show on Gratitude in the Chapel, Mariners Arts is hosting our monthly gathering, focusing on gratitude for the creative work of our hands. I have the honor of speaking that night, and there will be participatory art activations for you to experience. So if you haven't had enough by the end of the weekend, or are already booked Saturday and Sunday, then I invite you to come and join in for this special gathering.
