A good day to you. Here in Toronto we have eluded snow and frost long enough. It was our due at this point. We kept yo-yoing back to fifteen degrees but, now. the season has become fully committed to trying out a dash of freeze once again. It's not completely committed mind you. Most of the freezing happens overnight only to partially melt during the day as the weather has second thoughts, or is distracted, or simply starts the day with a worthy, but different, agenda? Maybe winter takes a while to wake up and, in that time, the sun does what they can until winter remembers, around 3pm, what it came here to do, and then resumes, as if no lapse had ever taken place.
In any case Daniel Siegel has a new one. I think he has maybe written more books than I have read. Maybe not, but it is a close call. A close call.
A shout out to anyone who has come in to browse. We have had a glorious surge in browsing and we appreciate it very much. It makes us feel like a real bookstore. Yes it does. It does. We love you.

A Passion for Ignorance: What We Choose Not to Know and Why
Renata Salecl

Ignorance, whether passive or active, conscious or unconscious, has always been a part of the human condition, Renata Salecl argues. What has changed in our post-truth, postindustrial world is that we often feel overwhelmed by the constant flood of information and misinformation. It sometimes seems impossible to differentiate between truth and falsehood and, as a result, there has been a backlash against the idea of expertise, and a rise in the number of people actively choosing not to know. The Trauma of Caste: A Dalit Feminist Meditation on Survivorship, Healing, and Abolition
Thenmozhi Soundararajan

Dalit American activist Thenmozhi Soundararajan puts forth a call to awaken and act, not just for readers in South Asia, but all around the world. She ties Dalit oppression to fights for liberation among Black, Indigenous, Latinx, femme, and Queer communities, examining caste from a feminist, abolitionist, and Dalit Buddhist perspective--and laying bare the grief, trauma, rage, and stolen futures enacted by Brahminical social structures on the caste-oppressed. [More. . .]

The Trauma of Racism: Lessons from the Therapeutic Encounter
Edited by Beverly Stoute and Michael Slevin

This book asserts that the insights and practice of psychoanalysis, applied behind the couch and in the community, create unique opportunities for change. Essayists address racially derived mental health inequities, including distortions, projections, stereotypes, and historical tropes. The Trauma of Racism invites personal and clinical exploration of how people learn, confront, and re-learn views on race. Narratives of the loss and grief and the burdens of slavery that crisscross the African American community are present. [More. . .]
