When Jesus looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood." -Luke 21:1-4
In today's Gospel reading, we hear of the Widow’s Mite.
This widow, who gave two coins from her need, gave so much. She gave sacrificially, reflecting her extraordinary commitment to the Lord. Jesus tells us this simple but powerful story to both inspire, invite, and challenge us.
As we approach this season of gratitude and love, may we all strive to be more like her. May we be courageous to give from our want, above and beyond our excess. No matter our means, we are all called to give generously, even sacrificially, to the work of God.
In the below stories, you will see many witnesses of love similar to the story of the widow in today's Gospel. I pray you are inspired to assist the community in bringing Christ’s love to fruition through our collective generosity.
In Christ’s peace,
