Text: Isaiah 36, 37, 2
Noisy Offering
Consecration of Financial Gifts

This Sunday –
Narrative Lectionary Week 11

The Prophet Isaiah

In this week's reading from the prophet Isaiah, King Sennacharib of Assyria stands tells the people of Jerusalem that there is no hope, that God cannot help them.  But God has other ideas for Sennacharib and the Assyrian army, sending them back home after a rumor of war elsewhere reaches them. With God, we have a future with hope, in spite of what the rumor mill would have us believe.

This is an especially important message in the times we are living in, and that's why "A FUTURE WITH HOPE" is the theme for this year's annual appeal for financial support. Letters and pledge cards were sent out two weeks ago. Thanks to everyone who has returned theirs; feel free to bring it to worship this Sunday. Extra cards are available in the back. As part of our worship, we will bless our financial support. Thank you for making what we do here possible!

AV PROJECT UPDATE
Here's what is happening:

  • Electrical work is underway but not quite done.
  • The sanctuary elevator electrical work has been removed as we move toward decommissioning the old elevator.
  • Four new video cameras are in place, but are not hooked up or functioning yet.
  • Next steps are building a working desk in the balcony and setting up the new computer.

Thanks to everyone who participated in a conversation about the AV project on November 13! Several people expressed concerns about the "pew view" camera in the front corner of the chancel above the choir. Not everyone is comfortable or consents to being on camera. The camera will be moved to the back corner of the sanctuary by the balcony and pews that aren't in camera range will be marked as such. The balcony is also available for seating that is off camera. Please don't hesitate to direct your questions or concerns to Lori Wunder or Scott Larson (lori.wunder@firstpresmv.com or scottl330@msn.com)

WANT TO OFFER OTHERS HELP FOR THE HOLIDAYS?
HERE ARE THREE WAYS:
1) Magical Night Youth Group Soup Supper
Thursday, December 1 from 5:00-7:00 in the Social of the UMC
Free Will Offering will support Southeast Linn Community Center. Their requests for assistance are at an all-time high. We need people to donate soup, desserts, other food items and funds to buy what we need. The Online sign up is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0f44afa72aa31-magical2

2) The SELCC Holiday Assistance Program provides gifts (wants and needs) for children who might not otherwise receive much for Christmas. If you would like to purchase and wrap gifts for a child in need, click here to sign up.

3) Southeast Linn Community Center can always use gift cards for gas and groceries. If you have the ability to help out consider purchasing gift cards for SELCC to offer clients. Bring them to the church and we will be sure SELCC gets them.

Member Care Committee- Volunteers Needed!
Our Member Care Committee has many different responsibilities of which one is to see that our shut-ins are visited monthly and offered communion 4 times a year. We are currently looking for more volunteers to visit our dear ones. If you feel this is a good fit for you please contact Diane Clay at (319) 213-8277 or (319) 455-2752.

VISITS TO AL AHRENS
Our friend, Al, really enjoys having visitors. The ALS has severely restricted his ability to talk so it is helpful to have Becky there, too. If you would like to go, let Becky know (cell 319-551-2756). He has a private room at Anamosa Care Center, and facemasks are no longer required.

MAGICAL NIGHT COMES TO FIRST PRES!
When Magical Night returns to in-person on Thursday, December 1, our building will be busy!

  • Mount Vernon Parks & Rec will be using the social hall for the always-popular cookie decorating.
  • Cornell's Office of Intercultural Life will have interactive displays for winter holidays (Diwali, Hanukkah, Bodhi Day, Kwanzaa) in the gathering area outside the CE classrooms.
  • Eight of Tim Kelley's wonderful animenagerie creations will be displayed on the main level outside the office, restrooms and Community Room and in the hallway connection.

Come check out Magical Night at First Pres...and join the youth for the soup supper at the UMC to support SELCC!
