A Celebration of Life for Torey Fay

September 22, 1982 - September 22, 2022

When: Saturday, November 19, 2022

Time: 12:00-2:00 PM

Where: Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School Cafeteria

Who: This event is open to anyone who has cherished memories of Torey Fay
Please join us and Torey’s family in celebrating an amazing teacher, mother, wife, and friend. There will be:

  • Light refreshments

  • Opportunities for people to share memories of Ms. Fay (open mic)

  • Card-making station - for those who want to share their memories of Torey with her family

  • A slideshow of pictures (please add yours here - Pictures for Torey’s CoL)

  • Representatives from Be the Match - The team from Be the Match is scheduled to join us to take non-invasive samples from those over 18 years old wishing to join the registry to potentially donate bone marrow for those critically ill with blood cancer.  Simply joining the registry now does not obligate anyone to eventually donate, and most that do join the registry will never be called.  More information can be found through https://bethematch.org/

Additional Information: As a community, we are working on creating a scholarship fund for both Lilyanna, Ms. Fay’s daughter, and for students at Meridian High School. The first $1000 will go to Lilyanna and the remainder will go towards a math scholarship for students at MHS in Torey’s name. Donation information:

  • Click on the link below

  • Any donation made should be for "Scholarship" and then enter Torey Fay.

  • Scholarship Donation Link

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Ms. Fay’s honor to the Childhood Cancer Association.

A Message from our Associate Principal

Dear Mary Ellen Henderson Community,

Another week down! It feels surreal that we are on the eve of December. Even though I'm not loving the fact that it’s getting dark at (what feels like) 4:00 pm, I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends.

I write today with a shout out to our students and staff for their hard work over the last couple of months. Middle school can be hard, and navigating it during a post-COVID world, can be even harder. One of our main priorities this year has been a focus on the mental and emotional health of our students. If our students are not feeling emotionally supported they won't be ready to learn. Here at Mary Ellen Henderson, we prioritize this with a focus on community. This shows in our weekly Pack lessons, SCA leadership, and continued focus on student needs. This past week, we surveyed our students on all things from peer relationships, safe adults, and their ability to make friends. This data is vital to our programming and how we adjust to ensure that all of our Huskies feel comfortable and safe at school.

Please know that we are dedicated to ensuring that this support is evident, however, we can't do this alone. When you have a chance, we urge you to ask your student the following questions. Based on what you learn, please know that our student services team is always here to help support and problem solve.

Example Questions:

  • Do you have a safe adult at school? Who is it and why
  • Would you visit the counseling office if you have an issue in a class? With a Friend?
  • Is it easy for you to make friends? Why or why not? How can we support?
  • Do you have a friend that you can go to if you need help or just to talk?

These are just a few ways that we can engage our students in much needed conversations.

As always, we are here to help and support! Have a great weekend!

Rob Carey

National Substitute Educators Day!

We want to give a huge shout out to our dedicated and loyal substitute educators. They jump in (sometimes at a moments notice) and fill the huge, but absent shoes of our paraprofessional and teaching staffs. Teaching and working at a middle school can be challenging, so we are very thankful that our subs keep coming back to Henderson! Know someone who is interested in becoming a substitute? Have them email Rob Carey and/or apply here!
