Stunning week of road and Indoor action!

Its been an incredibly busy week of action, with Team Blyth athletes out in force all over the north east. We start with midweek action, with the indoor season kicking off at Gateshead. This was a great opportunity for our younger athletes to gain competition experience, with most making their indoor debuts. On Wednesday, it was 60m sprints - and our young team all performed superbly on their first time at Gateshead. Ben took 1st place in the boys 60m, whilst Aman, Safia, Izabella and Fearne all put in excellent debut runs over the distance. On Thursday, more experience athletes joined the team. In the long jump, Catilin Creaby set a superb new PB, as did India Gorvett, with Fearne showing great promise on her debut in the event. In the high jump, Amara added 2cm to her PB, whilst on their debuts Aman, Safia and Ben all jumped superbly. Izabela kept on clearing heights with a best of 1.30m on her debut. Meanwhile, Hannah and Luke stepped up preparations for their international debuts, with Hannah setting a fantastic new PB of 1.60m, and Luke jumped superbly as well.
Heading to the weekend, and on Saturday Hollie produced a good run at the ESAA XC Cup, whilst on Sunday Lauren and Niamh produced fine individual and team performances at the Heaton Memorial junior races. Lauren took the win, with Niamh 5th. The girls results meant that Team Blyth took the team victory which is a fine achievement! It was a fantastic weekend of parkruns, with Mairi in action at Whitley Bay, and our boys scored a 1-2-3-4 at South Beach with Frankie leading home Luke, Jack W with a PB, and Richard. At Blyth Links William set yet another PB, as did Jack E, with Grace putting in a superb effort.

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.
If you wish to consider starting on the officiating journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
