Celebrations of Learning are coming soon!
Click above to watch the next video in our series!
Why do we use integrated thematic instruction at the Gardner School? We know that when students connect concepts across multiple disciplines, they develop deeper understanding, get to explore a wide range of approaches to learning, and get to see the real world connections to the topics covered. One of the important elements of this approach is the authentic audience that students share their learning with, and our Celebrations of Learning are the highlight of that experience.

Learn more in the latest video from Head of School Emily Davis where she highlights our thematics and the philosophy behind our Celebrations of Learning, and read below for the specific details for our Kalama- Klickitat classrooms. More specifics coming soon for our early childhood classrooms!

Thursday 12/15 @ 2:00 pm
Kindergarten- 6th Grade Celebrations

Meet us in the Great Room to get our K-6 Celebration of Learning started with some whole school performances, and then visit your child(ren)'s classrooms for more displays of learning and activities. Don't forget to check out the Art Gallery upstairs in the Art Room!

Family and friends are welcome to attend. Are you a parent of an early childhood student? We would love for you to join us so you can see the incredible learning opportunities that our elementary program offers.
Thank You, Volunteers!
Improved Outdoor Space
A dedicated team of volunteer parents joined our facilities handyman to assemble this covered area for students over the weekend. We heard many students share excitement at drop off for this new, sturdy space to use for eating, relaxing, and learning on our playground. Thank you, volunteers, for helping improve our campus!

11/17 @ 8:30 am in the Farmhouse

Meet the Staff
Lisa Linderman

Lisa grew up in Vancouver, where she spent her after school hours involved with the drama club, and her summers at OMSI science camps in Oregon and the Southwest, hiking and indulging her love of natural history and archaeology. After graduation, she moved to Seattle and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Washington and her Master in Teaching from Seattle University, where the curriculum was rooted in the Gardner philosophy. She has worked with diverse populations of students from kindergarten through 8th grade, including highly capable middle school students and elementary students with behavioral challenges, and has volunteered as a counselor at a summer camp for foster children and as a house monitor in a shelter for homeless teens.

Lisa enjoys learning anything someone wants to teach and is always looking to add new skills and knowledge. She spends her spare time baking, reading, gardening, writing, and working on a variety of arts and crafts. She is a certified Master Gardener, Master Food Preserver, and has taught CPR and First Aid for over a decade. She’s an unabashed “nerd”, with a lifelong love of science fiction and fantasy, comics, and table top and video games.

We are grateful to have Lisa on board as our Office Manager, and we love how she fills many roles around campus to support families, children, and staff!

Learning in Action

Lelooska Field Trip
Our 2nd grade students are studying native peoples across the country, and they had a chance to connect with the Lelooska Foundation and Cultural Center in Ariel, WA, for a special field trip last week! Sudents spent some time learning about how traditional carving techniques create intricate story masks, and then they visited the museum with many more artifacts from tribes around the country, including a birch bark canoe from the the Northeast, pottery from the Southeast, and warbonnets and clothing from the Great Plains Native Americans. Of course, students also got to see many items from our own area, the Pacific NW Native Americans, including from the Kwakwaka’wakw people who developed the living history programs at the Lelooska Foundation. Chaperones and students capped off the visit by looking for plants native to Washington in a scavenger hunt.

The Lelooska Foundation has been a valuable resource for schools for decades, and we are very grateful to be one of the first groups to return as they've resumed special events. Evening performances have returned, and the next one is being held on November 26th. Click here to learn more and reserve your family's tickets!
We want to hear your voice!

The school is undergoing a strategic planning process, and your input is valued. The survey is 25 questions, and should take less than 15 minutes. The survey closes this Wednesday, November 16th, so please take it today!

Campus snapshots

At last week's community meeting, students talked about how to help around our campus, including how to help make sure everyone feels included at recess, and how we can all contribute to keeping our campus clean. We appreciate how our students come together to take care of each other and our school!

2. Has your child been in close contact with anyone with confirmed COVID-19 or has a public health or medical professional told your child to self isolate or self-quarantine because of concerns about COVID-19 infection?
