Second Week in Yuma!
Hello and welcome back!

Derek here again this time.

Made it through our second week in Yuma. The weather has been a bit cooler this week with highs in the low 70’s and lows in the 50’s.  Has been really nice to not need to run the AC during the day and just have some windows and from door open.  Did not do any swimming this week since the breeze is a bit cool.  Water is warm but feels cold getting out :)

I had Friday off of work for Veteran's Day and John had Friday afternoon off.  Friday morning I got the sewing machine out and worked on shortening the pet covers for the front captain chairs.  I cut off 5" of material and sewed some hems.  It was the first time using this sewing machine, so it took some time to get used to it, and getting the settings dialed in.  I managed to get one of the two chairs done.

We decided to go do some local tourist stuff.  Our first stop was to the Yuma Territorial Prison State Park.  The original prison was built in 1876, well before Arizona became a state in 1912.

The museum was well done and the old remaining cells were quite crude.  Could not imagine spending the summer there.  Here's some photos we took:

We then went down the road to the Colorado River State Historical Museum.  It was interesting to see the impact of the Hoover Dam on the lower Colorado River.  Before the dam the river was much larger and wilder then it is now.  Today it looks like a small meandering river.  They had some exhibits that showed photos of riverboats and ferries on the river.  Here is a few photos John took:

On Saturday we went to Los Algodones, Mexico to check out the pharmacies and the wares the locals had for sale.  Crossing the border to Mexico was easy enough.  We paid $6.00 to park at the border, then walked through a turnstile and there we were.

Los Alogdones has a crazy number of dental practices, optometrists and pharmacies.  Walking down the street they have people on the sidewalks asking if you need dental work or eye glasses.  All of the stores were in condensed area so did not need to walk far to see most everything.

We stopped at a few pharmacies.  I picked up some gout medication and inquired about prices of some of the other medications I'm on.  Their prices were a little lower then what I get with my medical insurance, but not by much.  It will be nice to have some extra gout medication just in case.

After walking around for an hour we had lunch at Restaurant El Paraiso.  It was a large outside plaza with live music and a few vendors that went table to table showing their items for sale.  We had lunch a bit early at 10:30PST since MST ends at the Arizona border.  Enjoyed some fish and shrimp tacos and margaritas.  John purchased a colorful blanket from one of the vendors.  I think having a Mexican blanket is a requirement for RV's in the southwest :)

Going back into the US took a bit longer.  We had to show our passports and show what we had purchased.  We made it back to our vehicle and back home with no problem.

Today (Sunday) I did our weekly 3 loads of laundry at the RV park's laundromat.  It is nothing special, but glad it is here.  After laundry we went to the Yuma Swap Meet - a large flea market. They charge $2.00 a person for entry, but we had half off coupons from their website.

The flea market was fun to check out but did not find much to purchase. They had lots of junk dealers along with some produce vendors. They were welling fruit in a larger quantity then I wanted to deal with. I picked up some older video games to sell on eBay and that was it.  After walking around for an hour we headed out.

We then drove into Yuma for lunch at Five Guys.  We were both in the mood for a good burger and Five Guys did not disappoint.

Once back at the RV, I got the sewing machine out and finished up working on the second captain chair pet cover.  The second cover took much less then then the first one.  The sewing machine works well, but is not happy when I try to sew through too many layers - which is understandable.

Not much else going on.  We are enjoying the last few hours before our work week begins.

Ethan has been enjoying Yuma enjoys napping in the nice weather.
