Give a Dam Give a Dam (GAD), is a new Durango-based organization serving the Four Corners region. Their mission is water restoration through beaver education, awareness, and coordination of on-the-ground water restoration projects that involve the most current scientific research on water resilience. At Give A Dam they provide education on the historical perspective of rivers, creeks, and wetlands in America through the lens of beaver ecology. They work to create a deep understanding of the ecological devastation that beaver trapping has wrought on our watersheds. They focus on how building beaver populations can answer many of the environmental issues we are facing by mitigating drought (beaver wetlands recharge water tables) and flooding; improving fire resilience; creating habitat for fish, birds, mammals, and insects that rely on beaver wetlands; and through water filtration (beaver wetlands naturally filter pollutants in the water).
