Those of you who visit our website regularly will know how quickly places are filling on our workshops. Where there is high demand for places, we are repeating workshops as quickly as we can. We have some exciting new additions to our programme; some are running this year and some in the early months of 2023 for those of you who like to plan further ahead and would like to have something to look forward to in the new year. We have featured some of the latest additions below and hope you will be inspired by the range of workshops available. More coming soon!

Enamelled festive decorations
Wednesday 14th December 10am - 4pm
Enjoy making your own special decorations to adorn your Christmas tree by enamelling copper shapes. Your tutor will take you through each stage of the enamelling process to make your decorations including cleaning and preparing the copper shapes, sifting enamel powders, applying your own designs using stencils, ink pads or applying decorative media before firing in a hot kiln.

Beginners lino printing
Tuesday 17th January 10am - 4pm
Enjoy the process of this dynamic and popular form of printmaking. Using your own design or image, produce a one coloured lino print to take home. Learn how transfer your design to vinyl, use lino tools to cut, ink up your lino plate and print using a small etching press.

Introduction to stained glass
Wednesday 25th January 9.30am - 4.30pm
An introduction to the skills behind the craft of church windows. Have a fast but fun filled day learning how to use coloured glass, lead cames, solder and leaded light cement to create your own wonderful small panel to take home.

Foundations of drawing
Wednesday 15th February 10am - 4pm
This will be a relaxing and enjoyable workshop with individual advice and support to establish some basic drawing techniques and skills for you to build upon in the future. We will look at all aspects of mark making using pencil and charcoal. Drawing with just line or creating shading and tone, you will learn some basic techniques that will enable you to develop your drawing skill. We will be using a simple still life to draw from.

Copper foiled glass bunting
Wednesday 22nd February 9.30am - 12.30pm
On this half day workshop you will have the opportunity to create a beautiful strand of copper foiled glass bunting. Learn how to safely handle and cut your chosen pieces of coloured glass, grind the edges and then foil them using copper tape. The final stage will be to solder the pieces together to form your triangle. You can create three different triangles that can be left as individual hangings or tie them together to form a lovely bunting.

Glass hanging
Wednesday 22nd February 1.30pm - 4.30pm
Learn how to cut glass, foil and solder in this fun half day workshop. Make an item of your choice such as a glass heart, bumble bee, dragonfly, leaf or maybe a light catcher or a moon. The possibilities are endless! This workshop is suitable for both beginners and improvers

Silver jewellery in a day
Saturday 11th March 10am - 4pm
Spend a day learning simple techniques to produce your own metal jewellery. Practise tool use and model-making in copper first, then lose yourself in the magical process of turning silver into unique pieces of jewellery before your very eyes! Create one or two beautiful pieces of
simple jewellery to take home.

Enamelling - high firing techniques
Thursday 30th March 10am - 4pm
An exciting new workshop that explores the process of firing enamel powders at higher temperatures of between 900 -1000 degrees centigrade. Using a soft white enamel powder with different lead-free colours, explore the fascinating process of alchemy that exists between enamel and metal. Through experimentation, produce a selection of samples before moving on to enamel and high fire a copper bowl. The effects can be stunning.

Expressionistic landscape painting - 2 days
Tuesday 18th April & Wednesday 19th April
10am - 4pm
Create an expressionistic landscape painting in acrylics using the techniques and applications demonstrated and explored during this two day workshop. You will experience the whole process of developing a painting from start to finish. You will focus on some basic principles of colour and composition. With this understanding, you will explore and experiment with colour to express mood, energy and movement.

A reminder that we have gifts cards available for purchase for Christmas … or any other occasion. These are just perfect for someone who would enjoy the pleasure of choosing their own workshop. Gift cards are available in any amount and there is no expiry date. Last date for posting for Christmas is Friday, 16th December. Alternatively, collect one when you are next at Westhope.
