Progressives vie for Cuban American voters in Miami
A recent story by Fi2W editing fellow Virginia Lora highlights the uphill battle progressives face in winning over Cuban American voters in South Florida. Virginia’s reporting, part of our new series Immigrants in a Divided Country, offers insights that help explain the recent midterm elections where conservative Republican candidates prevailed, even in traditionally Democratic Miami-Dade County. Virginia’s story was produced in partnership with PRX’s The World.
Invest in news by immigrant journalists and journalists of color
We know you get lots of emails asking for your contribution this time of year, and we know there are many worthy organizations that could use your help. But we want to take this opportunity to share what makes us unique, and why your support for Feet in 2 Worlds makes a difference. Our mission is to address the historic underrepresentation of immigrants and people of color in the news media. We are very good at what we do. Hundreds of journalists have gone through our training programs, and have used Feet in 2 Worlds as a launch pad to become reporters, editors and producers at a wide range of news outlets. They are helping to change American journalism, to make it more representative of the nation’s diversity.
At this moment, when trust in the news media has been badly eroded, Feet in 2 Worlds continues to give journalists the tools they need to report effectively, ethically and fairly. Feet in 2 Worlds alumni reach millions of listeners and readers with engaging stories and vital information on a wide range of subjects. The Feet in 2 Worlds website and our award-winning podcastA Better Life?, provide a platform for immigrant and POC journalists to hone their skills.
As a nonprofit, we depend on the support of readers and listeners like you to keep this critical work going. That’s why we are excited about an incredible opportunity to increase the impact of your donation. From now through the end of the year, NewsMatch the Ralph E. Ogden Foundation and a special fund established by the Feet in 2 Worlds Board of Directors will quadruple your one-time gift, all up to $1,000 per individual.
Your contribution will allow us to continue offering the fellowships and skill-building workshops that have helped launch the careers of so many immigrant journalists and journalists of color.
What do you say? Will you invest in bringing more diverse voices to the news media?
Your contribution supports reporting by immigrant journalists and our highly successful program that brings immigrant voices to mainstream media. Thank you!
