Dear Families,
Although we try to be appreciative all year long of the wonderful lives we have, this is the season where we are reminded to be thankful. This Thanksgiving I have so much to celebrate and be thankful for as I am sure you do, too.
First and foremost, I am thankful for my wife and children. We have traveled the world together, worked together, and had amazing opportunities throughout our lives. In the busyness of my days, I sometimes forget how lucky I am to have an amazingly supportive wife and two successful, supportive children.
I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with you and your children. After thirty years as an educator, I still have a passion and love for teaching and learning. Your support and your students’ success is appreciated. We have amazing families who are supportive of our mission here at HOPE.
I am thankful that all of you value a HCCS education with your volunteer time and your money. We provide unmatched teaching and learning opportunities for our students, and you recognize this! Your donations allow us to maintain quality teachers, purchase the best curriculum, and ensure that students have everything they need to be successful. Thank you for caring and giving throughout the year.
I am thankful that our fifth grade classrooms are days away from opening for our students. Volunteers are cleaning, putting furniture together, and setting the rooms up so we can move in immediately after they are inspected. We are thinking the internet and phone wiring will be hooked up next week and then we just need our final inspection. The rooms are old, but they have been taken care of. Students and teachers will enjoy being in them.
I am thankful for a school board that cares about students and teachers. In a charter school the board is a little different from a typical school board. We are our own district and our own school so the board has many responsibilities that a typical board may not typically have. HOPE’s school board volunteers numerous hours meeting, coordinating, and making certain that our school has fulfilled all the policies and requirements we are supposed to follow.
Finally, I have to express my gratitude and thanks to a group of educators and administrative staff that excel on a daily basis. As you have the opportunity to meet with teachers for conferences, I hope you have the time to thank them for the hard work, planning, and amazing job that they do for your students. Not only do our teachers do amazing work, but our administrative staff have stepped up to the plate after employee resignations to fulfill all the necessary responsibilities and keep the school running smoothly.
I hope that all of you have a wonderful conference with your child’s teacher on Monday or Tuesday. Don’t forget to check out the book fair for some Christmas gifts! Have a wonderful time with your family next week. Happy Thanksgiving!!
With High Expectations,
Kevin Olds
