| | News from the Town of Needham | | Good morning, Needham! Unbelievably, we’re just one week away from Thanksgiving. Town facilities will be closed Thursday, November 24th, and will reopen Friday, November 25th. Beginning the 25th, parking meters in Town will be free for up to two hours at a time to encourage and accommodate local shopping and dining this holiday season. More information on holiday festivities is below. If you’re looking to donate toys to children in need this year, you can drop off new, unwrapped toys in the Toys for Tots box located on the first floor of Town Hall. From everyone here in Needham Town government, we’re wishing you and your family a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. | | Blue Tree Lighting Set for Greene’s Field Saturday, December 3rd | | The Blue Tree Lighting is back! Due to the ongoing renovation of the Town Common, the Blue Tree festivities will be held this year on Greene's Field. The event will be held Saturday, December 3rd from 5-6 pm. Santa will arrive via firetruck to light the stand-in Blue Tree. There will be performances from Needham High Chorale and Plugged In Band Program. Street performers and a surprise costumed character will be on hand to add to the fun. Following the lighting, children and families are invited to visit and take photos with Santa. The event is free and open to the public. |

| | Take the Poll: Which Mural Do You Want to See in Needham Heights? | | | Community Preservation Committee Accepting Applications for Project Funding - Dec. 1 Deadline | The Community Preservation Committee (CPC) is currently accepting applications for project proposals eligible for funding under the Community Preservation Act (CPA). Eligible projects can include acquiring, creating, preserving, supporting, or rehabilitating open space, historic resources, recreational land, and community housing. Applications are due December 1, 2022 and should be emailed to Cecilia Simchak (csimchak@needhamma.gov) and Kristen Wright (kwright@needhamma.gov). For a current listing of CPA funded projects, see http://needhamma.gov/445/Needhams-Projects. | | | Town Receives Grant to Develop Arts & Culture Plan | The Town will soon kick off a year-long effort to develop an Arts and Culture Plan thanks to in-kind technical assistance being provided by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) valued at $42,500. The plan will include the creation of an arts and culture vision statement for the Town as well as an action plan to achieve that vision. A working group comprised of up to 12 individuals from the arts and cultural community in Needham will work closely with MAPC and under the direction of Economic Development Manager Amy Haelsen who is overseeing this effort. | | Be a Part of Needham’s Juneteenth Celebrations! | The Town is seeking volunteers to join the Juneteenth Celebration Planning Committee. The committee was created to recognize and celebrate African American history in Needham by creating an atmosphere of education, engagement and inspiration. Juneteenth marks the liberation of thousands of enslaved people of Galveston, Texas, on June 19th, 1865, two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Today, Juneteenth celebrates African American freedom and achievement while encouraging unity and respect for all cultures. The committee will recommend to the Select Board ways to celebrate Juneteenth and honor African American history. Apply by Tuesday, November 22nd. | |
