The Idaho Foodbank Updates
Updates on the Partner Newsletter
Thank you for reading our partner newsletter! This newsletter is meant to give you information about The Idaho Foodbank and the community, as well as highlighting the work that our partners are doing.  After receiving some feedback, we will be sending this newsletter out once per month. You can look for it in your inbox on the 3rd Thursday of each month.

Food Safety Training
As the holiday season approaches, your organization may be receiving a lot of food donations. If you receive donations, we recommend watching this training video that was created by The Idaho Foodbank’s Food Safety team. It provides information on how to inspect various incoming foods that you may receive as donations. Please share with your fellow volunteers and staff so they can sort and inspect the food donation. You can find the video through this link.

Reminder: The Idaho Foodbank Warehouse Closure
All of The Idaho Foodbank’s warehouses will be closed for Thanksgiving on November 24th. Friday, November 25th will have limited pick-up, but no deliveries. Our Pocatello warehouse will be closed on both days for pick-up and delivery. This will allow our employees to spend the holiday with their families. If you need to reschedule your pick-up or delivery, please contact partnerships@idahofoodbank.org

Nonprofit Updates
Idaho’s Free and Reduced Cost Clinics
Nearly 8% of Idaho adults do not have healthcare coverage, leaving them vulnerable to the high costs of delayed medical care. Luckily, medical partners across the state are working to ensure that Idahoans without access to health insurance still have access to high-quality medical care. The Idaho Foodbank is proud to partner with Genesis Community Clinic, in Southwest Idaho, Snake River Free Clinic, in North Central Idaho, and the Pocatello Free Clinic in Eastern Idaho. If you are interested in connecting with these healthcare partners to receive information or discuss ways to work together, you are welcome to reach out to communityhealth@idahofoodbank.org for more information.

Partner Highlight
Blaine County Hunger Coalition
The Blaine County Hunger Coalition (BCHC) is based out of Bellevue, Idaho and they are doing some great work. Serving 550-600 food-insecure families weekly, the BCHC is vital to Blaine County and the surrounding areas.  According to the Hunger Coalition, since 2020, the Blaine County area food needs have increased by 358% and are still climbing. Providing a range of public services, the BCHC is innovative, organized, and friendly. They have many youth volunteers and community members who proactively volunteer. This Hunger Coalition believes everyone in their community ought to have access to the good food necessary for a good life.  The Idaho Foodbank, together with the Blaine County Hunger Coalition, partner to help provide the food and resources for this unique area in our state.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month
November is National Diabetes Awareness month. Diabetes is a disease that affects the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin. Insulin is produced in the pancreas and regulates the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood.

What does diabetes mean for your diet? With a focus on portions and frequency, all foods can be enjoyed. Eating well and managing carbohydrates are key to sustaining a healthy blood sugar range. Being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight are important as well. Partnering with healthcare providers to develop a plan, including frequent monitoring, will help to manage diabetes.

For a delicious, diabetes-friendly meal, try this recipe for Pasta with Pumpkin Sauce from the Mayo Clinic.

Happy to help.
