Save the Date for St. John's Christmas Brasstacular!

by Luke Duroc-Danner

On Sunday December 18th at 3pm, St. John's is excited to launch our Community Concert series and ring in the holiday season with this festive concert featuring the Lakeshore Brass ensemble. All are invited to join us at this special, family-friendly Christmas concert!

Lakeshore Brass' previous Christmas performances have included arrangements of traditional carols, a trilogy of pieces for Hanukah, as well as popular favorites such as 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer', 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas', and a musical rendition of 'Twas the Night before Christmas'. This year the performance will be further enlivened with the addition of percussion!

This concert is sponsored by the Aylesworth Music fund. Admission is free for everyone. There is a suggested donation of $20 for adults to help support the music program at St. John's as well as other concerts and community outreach events supported by the Music Ministry.

More information about reserving seats will be coming soon! You can contact the music director, Luke Duroc-Danner, at luke@stjohnswilmette.com if you have any questions!

Happy Anniversary to those celebrating this week:
  • Larry & Nancy Wood, 11/21
Additions to the Prayer List:
  • Lily Jean St. Onge, great-grand niece of Margye Smith, facing open heart surgery.
We apologize for any omissions. If your birthday, anniversary, or new intention on the prayer list is not included, please contact churchoffice@stjohnswilmette.com to be added. Please also let us know of any personal or family milestones, including happy occasions or serious lifecycle events that you would like to share with the St. John's community.
2023 Commitment Cards
Thank you so much to all who participated in Sunday's Commitment Card Procession!  We received 29 cards total - thank you for your generosity!  Your ongoing support of the church makes it possible for us to continue cultivating sacred connections with God, with one another, and with the world.  If you have not yet submitted your card, please do so by postal mail, by placing it in the offering plate, or by completing it online.  Remember, we have an anonymous donor who has promised to donate an additional $500 for every card received above 50.  Let's get to 50 and beyond!

Advent Buffet
Next Sunday, November 27, is the first Sunday in Advent. Our theme this year is “From Generation to Generation.” To help you on your Advent journey, a “buffet” has been prepared for you in the gathering space by the fellowship hall.  You will find Advent calendars, a devotional, and an Advent study. Also available are Advent wreath coloring sheets with extra votives and candles if you need them. Take some time to look over buffet beginning this Sunday and help yourselves to the items you would like to use.

Thanksgiving Multifaith Service: Call for Singers
On Tuesday, November 22, the New Trier Multifaith Alliance will be holding a Thanksgiving service at 7:30 pm at Winnetka Congregational Church (725 Pine Street, Winnetka). All are invited to attend! They are also inviting any singers or choir members from local churches to participate in the choir for the service. There will be a rehearsal that night at 6:30 pm, followed by the service. Music can be sent out ahead of time. If you are interested, please contact Luke Duroc-Danner (luke@stjohnswilmette.com) to receive more information or to register to participate.

Holy Family Christmas Giving Tree
Holy Family is again asking if we would participate in their gift program for the children. They are asking for $25 gift cards to Target.  The cards have already been purchased and if you are interested in supporting the students in this manner, please send a check to church for $25 or multiples of $25. Make the checks payable to St. John’s Lutheran Church and in the memo please put “HFM Gift”.  You may also buy the cards on our website here for $26 (this includes a $1 processing charge).  Deadline for the collection is December 11.  Our goal this year is 24 cards.    Although not as much fun as picking out a gift for one of our wonderful and hard-working HFM students, this is the safest way to still say we love you to the children in their care. The Holy Family Christmas Giving Tree program has been a part of St John's for many years, and we don't want to miss blessing the boys and girls of Holy Family at this joyous holiday season. Thank you so much.
