Project News

Horton Regen Ag Group

Will and Lindy Cannington hosted the latest Cuppa Chat for the Horton Regen Ag group.  The group had a walk over Will & Lindy's pastures of Annual Ryegrass and clover on top of subtropicals, which is proving very efficient with high carrying capacity and impressive weight gains.  We then moved on to looking at their leaky weir system following recent high rainfall and then inspected another area where things hadn't quite gone to plan, where attendees bounced around ideas as to how it could potentially by resolved.  The benefit of these Chats is the peer to peer knowledge sharing and support among group members.

Multi-Species Pastures Farm Visit

Justin and Lorroi Kirkby of Amarula Dorpers opened their home on Monday to share with attendees all that they have learned about Multi Species Pastures and the benefits of biodiversity and grazing management.  They spoke of the changes they have seen not only in their soils and pastures but also in the health of their stock through increased nutrient density of the plants they are grazing.  Justin and Lorroi are inspirational farmers, who welcome the opportunity to help others achieve the same successes they they have in turning around their degraded property into a much healthier, more profitable and more sustainable enterprise.   Attendees walked over several of their paddocks, seeing first hand the diversity of species and feeling the softness of the soils underfoot.  Justin and Lorroi's take home message for the day?  "Just start somewhere".  Even small changes in management can bring about improvements to the health of your soils, your livestock and yourselves.

Local knowledge and local input needed to help weed out invasive plants

North West Local Land Services is calling for your input into the North West Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan. We are calling for your help to shape the management and control of weeds across the region.

Regional Weed Committees have developed the draft plans with Local Land Services and the NSW Department of Primary Industries to explain how each region will work together to manage weeds.

The Regional Strategic Weed Management Plans intend to prioritise the most important weeds in the region. They will guide how government, industry and the community can work together to protect the environment, community and economy from the negative impacts of weeds.

Plans are based on local knowledge, research and technology, with a strict assessment of the biosecurity risk of each weed.

Local feedback on the draft plans will help to ensure they are in line with community expectations and needs.

North West Local Land Services strategic weed management plan is open for feedback and can be viewed online until 6 November 2022. Please take the time to read through your relevant plan prior to providing feedback.

Visit https://www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/weed-plans to view the draft plan and provide feedback.
