COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHTS & EVENTS

It was great to see some of the BE+ community out in SF for Greenbuild!

Greenbuild 2022 Sessions are now available on-demand for attendees and for purchase.

The torch is passed from Harvard University to Bristol County Agricultural High School

BE+ was pleased to award HMFH Architects the 2022 Green Building of the Year for their work on the renewal of Bristol County Agricultural High School’s campus at this year’s Green Building Showcase.

According to the judges, the project “checked so many boxes for us… aggressive sustainability, a strong community connection, a focus on carbon reduction, a teaching tool …all on a limited, public-school budget. The project is also a very familiar project type, the renovation and expansion of an obsolete public school, which the team executed beautifully, serving as a fiscally responsible model for the community, state, and public-school project type.”

PROJECT SPOTLIGHTS

Manchester Memorial Elementary School

LEED BD+C: Schools: GOLD
Manchester Memorial Elementary School is a 75,051 GSF new construction in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. It was completed in 2021 on the existing School site and serves the Manchester-Essex Regional School District. Home to over 300 students, the School prioritizes inclusive education and incorporates three specialized education programs. Collaborative community outreach drove the project, resulting in optimized safety for active commuters and a pedestrian bridge to connect the Elementary School to the neighboring Middle/High School campus. Views, natural light, and biophilic design elements help tie the project to the surrounding environment, with the design team drawing experience from the Massachusetts North Shore. The new school achieved Gold Certification on October 24, 2022 under LEED v4 BD+C: Schools.

Island Parkside

PASSIVE HOUSE DESIGN CERTIFIED
Island Parkside is a mixed-use community space and affordable housing complex in Lawrence, MA. Built on a former industrial site, the new construction is home to 80 affordable housing units. It will be all-electric for heating and cooling with extensive rooftop PV arrays. The buildings will reinforce healthy living with Fitwel principles and access to outdoor spaces featuring active and passive fitness activities. The project is also prioritizing access to views and natural light, and excellent indoor air quality. The campus will be home to community and recreational spaces including an afterschool program. Island Parkside achieved Passive House Design Certification in October 2022.
