THANK YOU TO OUR DONORS for making our FREE clinics possible!

People ask, what they can do, how they can help? Our clinics cost $1,950 USD weekly. With the new contract, we gave our vet team a well-deserved raise and benefits which raised our costs.

We are looking for sponsors of clinics.
Clinics are 3.5 days weekly
  • To sponsor one day is $550.00 USD, half day is $300 USD; or a week for $1,950. We will honor and name donors who sponsor a day or a week. You can donate online at www.peaceanimals.org
  • Or make a check payable to Banderas Bay Charities and mail to 505 N Tomahawk Is Dr, Portland, OR 97217.  PEACEAnimals in check memo section and your email so BBC can quickly mail you a donor receipt.
  • PEACEAnimals does have Donatario status, should you want Mexican tax credit.

San Jose, thank you Volunteers!

I got a summary from AmazonSmile showing my total contributions since I signed up in 2016. My charity of choice is Banderas Bay Charities, Inc., and I'm proud to have generated more than US $1,000 to it, even given the relatively small percentage that Amazon contributes.  Just wanted to remind all of you that if you buy through AmazonSmile rather than Amazon or AmazonPrime, you too can automatically contribute to PEACE with every purchase you make. Couldn't be easier to sign up using your Amazon account.

Banderas Bay Charities, Inc supports PEACEAnimals, Amigos de La Cruz and other local charities.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Life in Puerto Vallarta

I would like to start with a tribute to Gretchen DeWitt, founder of PEACEAnimals, who passed away two years ago on November 11, 2020. She died on Veteran’s Day. PEACEAnimals is still much like the organization for Spay/Neuter she started in 2013. We are sterilizing more animals now thanks to donations and our great vet team. Her vision remains strong, and we all still miss her and remember her zest for life and smile that could light up a room. Her passion to eliminate animal suffering knew no bounds.

Thank you, Gretchen. The whales are back a bit early this year, and I think of you every time I see one.

Gretchen on her regular Sunday morning trip with Karla (right of Gretchen) from Boca Divers

Friends in the States and visitors here, often ask what we do all day? Saturday is a particularly fun day for Bill and Teaberry and me. We wake up leisurely and take a walk by the bay and then go to town to the Olas Altas Farmer’s market that is from 9 AM to 1 PM. We stand in line for our favorite bread and cinnamon rolls, flowers and a stand with great tasting small avocados.

All the food is fresh and many of the booths have soaps, artwork, baskets and many other wares. We see friends there and stop for a chat.

Then we go to breakfast nearby. This week we ate at Serrano’s which is right across from the market and they have delicious Mexican and American breakfast dishes and very reasonably priced.

We then went to Elements of Design, owned by our friend, Bill Wells. He was having a sale. We bought a planter for the balcony. We always like going into the store because 3 rescue dogs greet us and look for treats. Aaron who is Mexican and a partner in the business carries both dog and cat food in his backpack and starts everyday feeding animals along his way to work. AND he has 8 dogs and 14 cats in his home. All rescues that he takes immaculate care of. He has a mobile vet who comes to the house. With all those animals he needs that. It takes a village but so many people are saving the animals here and they are all heroes to
me!

The day rounds out with a trip to the pool, another walk for Teaberry and dinner with friends. Living here is a rich and diverse life and now that we have been here 6 months full time, we wouldn’t trade it!

Here’s to you Gretchen and all the people who make PEACEAnimals possible.

Shalimar is back working Recovery

This week the Riviera Nayarit Arena in San José Del Valle, north of PV, opened its doors to carry out the sterilization campaign; as always it was successful.

The arena has been present for many years where charrería tournaments have been held, charrerias are a part of the Mexican culture.

While our doctors were tending to the patients, some horses were being looked after by their handlers which made for a very enjoyable week.

Charreria is a sport arising from equestrian activities and livestock traditions used in the haciendas of old Mexico.

Thanks to Isabel Moran, Chef Paul and Flor for all their help with logistics, recuperation and registrations
