Background:

What is GIS?
A geographic information system (GIS) is a system that creates, manages, analyzes and maps all types of data. The Town has been using GIS technology for 20 years and with interactive mapping, users can find addresses, Town facilities, determine wards and waste collection days, measure the length of a trail, or view development information such as zoning or active developments.

What is GIS Day?
GIS Day (November 16) is a day celebrated around the world to help others learn about geography and the real-world applications of GIS that make a difference in our society. GIS Day is a chance for GIS professionals to share their accomplishments and inspire others to discover GIS. Learn more about GIS Day at: gisday.com

What is Open Data?
Access to open data is part of the Town’s commitment to make Newmarket even better. It is shared data that can be freely used, re-used and redistributed. Among its many benefits, sharing data freely and openly allows for greater transparency and accountability, can improve services, and improve efficiency and effectiveness of government services.
