If you take water and nutrients out of the soil health equation, the remaining large factor for crop production is soilborne disease.
So then, healthy soils produce healthy crops, right? Nope. Although it would seem the very definition of soil health, this popular thinking is off. Soil health can help with soilborne diseases, but it is not disease suppression.
