Counseling Department Message

This past Wednesday, November 09, 2022, we welcomed three very special guests to our school campus. Three judges, Judge Tiffany Chase, Judge Candice Bates-Anderson, and Judge Rachael Johnson, came to speak to our creative learners about juvenile laws. The specific laws of focus addressed bullying, cyberbullying, age of consent, and career opportunities in the judicial branch. Our 5th-8th graders were participants in this assembly. The sessions were well-planned, engaging, and purposeful! We are truly grateful to have community Judges on our campus. Special thanks to the following staff members for helping to plan and execute the sessions: Ms.Carly Rogers, Ms. Brianne Fruge, our entire culture team, our Arts Department staff, Ms. Kerrigan, Ms. D. Allen, and our middle school teachers.

Staff Shout Outs

Ms. Kara Myres: Teaching Assistant

Shout-out to Ms. Kara Myres for her hard work, dedication, and love for our creative learners. She is one of the most passionate paraprofessionals/support staff members I have encountered. We appreciate her supporting our 5/6 learners as we welcomed Mr. Hill to his new role!

Welcoming New Staff:

Please join me in welcoming some of our newest members of the school team! We want to send them some love and show them the YACS way. Be sure to introduce yourself and tell them hello.

Newest Creative Educators (L to R):
Shechaniah (Shay) Riley: Pre-K-1st Grade SPED Teacher

Pete Dollas: 3rd-5th Grade Math SPED Teacher
Kevin Hill: 5th-6th Grade Math Teacher

Other Opportunities

The Tulane Center for K-12 STEM Education and STEM Library Lab are partnering together on a new collaboration, the Louisiana Alliance for STEM Teaching (LAAST), and we would LOVE for you to attend our Kickoff event!!!

The Alliance will provide K-12 science and math teachers in the state with professional development events, direct access to high-quality STEM equipment and tools to utilize in their classrooms, networking opportunities to collaborate with other teachers, and resources that will help them build lesson plans and incorporate hands-on activities into their curriculum. The Alliance will unify the STEM education ecosystem in the region with the primary goal of supporting classroom teachers and educators and connect them with STEM-focused nonprofits in the region.

The LAAST Kickoff will be Thursday, November 17th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the STEM Library Lab (3011 N I 10 Service Rd E, Metairie, LA 70002) and we would LOVE to have you attend! There will be an opportunity at the event to provide us insight on how to best support Louisiana classroom teachers and educators as well as how to bring community partners together!

Registration is recommended but not required.  Please register at the link below. Light refreshments provided.
