Monday Morning News.

November 21, 2022
Greetings Friends,
     Thanksgiving is upon us and this week will see many of us gathering with friends and family to give thanks. The holiday is being squeezed out a bit these days ever since Christmas became a two month shopping season and then Halloween extended its reach beyond the realms of kids in costumes begging for candy. While Thanksgiving may be overlooked as nothing more than a one-day dinner service, the heart of Thanksgiving is a message that we need to hear again and again.
    From politicians to preachers, the ideals undergirding Thanksgiving have long been extolled. It is a time to be thankful, to foster a spirit of gratitude, to 'count your blessings.' The initial impulse was clearly to give thanks to the God who has blessed us but in modern times this has been partially supplanted by language that directs us to 'practice mindfulness' or 'embody thanks.' While even these practices have merit, how much more merit is there in orienting our thanks towards our generous God?
    Hear it in the words of Rev. Henry Alford's hymn, "Come, Ye Thankful People Come"
Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home;
all is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin.
God our Maker doth provide, for our wants to be supplied;
come to God's own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home.
Peace,

Pastor Noah

Announcements & General News

The Dayton Church had their annual Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday, Nov 17 and fed over 70 people from the church and community! Three turkeys were prepared along with countless side dishes and a seemingly unending supply of desserts. The supply of flatware ran low but the supply of Christian hospitality was at an all time high!

The Worship Committee wishes to thank everyone who helped decorate the church for Advent. We had a great meal after worship which gave us the fuel to do all the decorating around the sanctuary. Thanks to everyone!
NEW CHURCH DIRECTORY
The newly updated church directories for both Dayton & Polson are available. Pick up your paper copy at the church or EMAIL THE CHURCH OFFICE to have a digital version sent to you.
Mission Opportunity

The Polson Church will have an opportunity to be present again this year at the Parade of Lights on December 2nd. We will set up a table downtown and hand out treats to those attending.
Last year we were next to the Catholic Church which provides chili and cornbread. This year our church will provide bags of Chex Mix. We will start at 5:00 PM and should be finished no later than 7:30 PM.

Help will be needed with the following projects:
  • Ingredients for the Chex Mix
  • Making and bagging of the treats on Nov. 30th (the youth will hopefully be taking lead on this but will be glad for any help)
  • Set up on Dec. 2nd
  • Attending the table downtown and handing out treats
  • Clean Up after the parade or when we run out
There is a sign-up sheet in the Fellowship Hall. Any questions, please call Tricia.
