山々が美しく雪化粧し、クリスマスのイルミネーションが街を彩る時期となりました。あっという間に今年も残すところ一か月となりましたが、皆様にとってどんな一年となりましたか？ 

今年は数年ぶりとなる入園式・入学式を開催、そして多くのクラスで対面授業を再開することができました。保護者の皆様、そしてボランティアの方々の日頃よりのご理解とご支援に感謝申し上げます。 
また、今年もE-newsをご覧いただきありがとうございました。皆様が良い新年を迎えられますように祈っております。 

We approached the time of year when the mountains are getting beautifully covered with snow and the city is decorated with Christmas lights. In the blink of an eye, we have only one month left of this year. What has the year been like for you? 

This year, for the first time in several years, we held CW and VJLS opening ceremonies and resumed in-person classes in many classes. We would like to thank all our parents and volunteers for their understanding and support.

The end of 2022 is getting closer.  How have you been this year? 
At Children's World, we know that no child is the same, each child has their own special set of traits and qualities that make them great!

こどものくにの保護者の方が集まり制作しているクラフト作品が、15,15,17日開催のクリスマスコンサート時に販売されます。皆さんの心のこもった、とっても可愛らしい作品がたくさん！当日是非お越しください。収益はすべてこどものくにで使う本や学習教材の購入に充てられます。 

Hearty and cute crafts made by the parents of Children’s World will be on sale during the Christmas Concert this month. Come visit us on the day 15th, 16th, and 17th! All proceeds from the sale go towards purchasing books and new learning materials for Children’s World.

Remember Hiroshima

リメンバランス・デーの翌日、11月12日にヒロシマ原爆の体験者であるランメル幸さんと、ご主人のランメル・チャールズさんをお招きして、被爆体験や核兵器についてのお話を伺いました。VJLSの中高生は、この日のために丸尾先生と2週間かけて事前学習を行い、戦争と平和についての理解を深めてきました。お話の後、活発な質疑応答もできました。ランメル幸さんが執筆された「Hiroshima-Memories of a Survivor」という本をサイン付きでVJLSに寄付していただきました。図書館で借りることができます。    

On November 12, the day after Remembrance Day, VJLS welcomed Sachi Rummel, a survivor of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, and her husband Charles. They shared about their experiences during the war, their lives afterward, and the horror of the bombing.  For this day, VJLS teacher Maruo gave classes about war to our junior and senior high school students, and they had deepened their understanding of war and peace. After their talk, Sachi and Charles willingly answered questions the students had.
A book titled "Hiroshima-Memories of a Survivor" written by Sachi was donated to VJLS with her autograph. The book can be borrowed from our library.

12月3日は、高校3年生が日本舞踊を体験します。 12月17日が今年最後の授業日です。来年は1月7日に始まります。皆様、よいお正月をお迎えください。

バンクーバー日本語学校では、12月の1週間ウィンターキャンプ、ウィンタースクールを開催します。日本文化を体験しながらお友達といい思い出を作りませんか？楽しいアクティビティを沢山準備していますよ！また、ウィンタースクールでは国語や算数など、勉強を中心に取り組みます。申込締め切りは12月12日です。まだお申込みがお済でない方はお急ぎください！

VJLS After School Study Club

平日の放課後にVJLSで勉強するクラブです。
お子さんにもっと日本語を学習させたい、だけど集中が続かない。そういった悩みを抱えている方はいらっしゃいませんか？　バンクーバーではなかなか見ることのできない教材ドリルを使用してお子さまに自学自習の習慣を身につけてもらうのが目的です。 漢字や計算に自信がつきます。

日程: 火曜日と（または）木曜日 (人数や希望数によっては他の曜日も開講予定) 
時間:  午後4時から6時 
対象年齢: Grade1からGrade9(Grade10以上は要相談)  
科目: 国語、算数(数学)、社会から選択 
月額: 週1日2時間の場合$100、週2日4時間の場合$150

This is a study club at VJLS after school on weekdays. The learning materials that will be used are from Japan and rarely available in Vancouver. The class and its materials will help your child develop good self-studying habits and have fun while learning!   It will help them gain confidence in Kanji and calculation. 

Dates: Every Tuesday and/or Thursday.    
 (Other days may be available depending on the number of students and requests)   
 Times: 4- 6pm    
 Age: Grade 1 to 9 (Grade 10 and above upon request)     
 Subjects: Select from Japanese, math, or social studies

毎年恒例のもちつきランチイベントが今年も開催されます。今年は「味噌雑煮」をご用意します。上質な松竹梅のお米を使った、キッチンボランティアによる手作り雑煮です。
当イベントは2022年12月17日（土）12時～16時まで、本館ホールにて開催します。
当日のチケットは数に限りがありますので、オンラインで事前購入されることをお勧めします。

This year we are celebrating the return of our annual Mochitsuki lunch event. We will be serving Miso-Zoni, a healthy vegetable soup with a miso base. This homemade dish, made by our kitchen volunteers, is made with high quality sho-chiku-bai sweet rice.

Lunch will be served from 12pm - 4pm on December 17, 2022 in the Japanese Hall.

Limited tickets will be available on the day of the event so we encourage you to pre-purchase your ticket online to ensure that you save your spot.

The Past Wrongs, Future Choices Spring 2023 Residency Prograｍ

VJLS-JHは、Landscapes of Injustice プロジェクトに取り組んだチームの、新しいグローバルリサーチプロジェクトであるPast Wrongs Future Choices を支援する数多くの組織の一つです。この新しいプロジェクトの一環として、 Residency Fellowship プログラムに参加するアーティストと研究者を募集しています。

ビクトリア大学で行われる、3週間集中のプログラムに参加しませんか？The Past Wrongs, Future Choices Spring 2023 Residency プログラムは、プロジェクトベースで、3名の研究者と3名のアーティストに、集中した目標志向の場と、様々な背景、分野、場所の住民とのつながりを構築する機会を提供するものです。

VJLS-JH is one of a number of organizations supporting Past Wrongs Future Choices, a new global research project led by the same team that coordinated the Landscapes of Injustice project. As part of this new project, they are looking for artists and scholars to participate in a Residency Fellowship program.

Join a vibrant and intensive writing and creative 3-week retreat at the University of Victoria. The Past Wrongs, Future Choices Spring 2023 Residency Program is a project-based opportunity that will offer three academics and three artists a setting for focused, goal-oriented work, and an opportunity to establish connections with residents from varied of backgrounds, disciplines, and places.
