The Katz Family
Tell us about your family and how you heard about PJ Library!
Our little family is tiny but mighty! My daughter Joanna was born at the end of 2020 after a beautiful and blissful nine months of her in my belly. It is just her and I and our big, seven year old rescue dog Chloe. We are officially a ‘girl gang’ full of love in our home. I initially found out about PJ Library when living in Calgary when my siblings started to have kids. I quickly signed them all up and they loved getting the mail each month. It was a natural move to ensure my little one jumped on board too.

Tell us about your experiences with PJ Library and how this program (books, events and/or initiatives) has impacted your family.
As the PJ Connector for babies ages 0-2, I have really delved into the program, both from a books perspective and events. It is really great to meet so many new Jewish parents in our community and see how much growth is happening every month.

What are your child(ren)'s favourite PJ Library books?
The most recent book that we received, ‘Look at You’ is a big hit with Joanna. She loves learning and naming all of her body parts, and the mirror at the end of the book is terrific. She explodes with giggles when we get to the end. As a parent, I think that is something we all strive to do day in and day out. Laughter of our kids is the absolute best.

What has been your child's/family's favourite PJ Library program or initiative and why?
Joanna and I have really loved getting to know the parents at the play time events. Heading to the park or a museum as a group has the kids enjoying the time together while giving the parents some time to chat and meet new people in the community. We’re always up for something! No shortage of energy here.

What would you say to a friend who has never heard about PJ Library?
I think it is a MUST for Jewish families to sign up for. The books coming in the mail are such a nice treat for the kids for so many years. Getting mail and enjoying a new read is terrific. I also love the community feel that the events, be it in person or online, allow for. Sometimes it takes time to make those new connections, but it feels great to know that our Jewish community in Winnipeg is growing and thriving.
