Counseling Corner
This week, our counseling team will be working on confidence. Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; it’s a firm trust. It can also be a feeling of self assurance arising from one’s own abilities or qualities. Humility is the freedom from pride or arrogance; it is the quality or state of being humble. These things may sound like opposites, but this week we will explore how they actually provide the perfect balance to our personality.
Confidence involves liking how you are as a person-it’s a myth that confidence is always being the loudest, funniest, or smartest person in the room. In reality, confidence is just being you in the way you feel most comfortable (sometimes people are naturally the loudest people in the room and that’s okay, too). Confidence is not being arrogant, which is expecting that everyone should automatically like who you are for no real reason. This could be a pattern of expecting that everyone should appreciate how amazing you are and acting like you’re better than everyone else rather than being humble. The biggest difference is confidence is earned over time and involves trust, arrogance is expected for nothing.
Parenting Strategies of the Week: Being Intentional and Humble With Gift Giving This Holiday Season
If you’re like me, your email has begun filled up with emails about Cyber Monday, Black Friday and a bazillion gift deals claiming you *need* from every website you’ve ever purchased from or even glanced at in the last ten years.
Around the holidays my head begins to swim under the pressure of a season of shopping, gifting, activities and gatherings. and holiday wish list guides.
The concept of being intentional with gift giving is all about taking the pressure off of gifts and running yourself ragged trying to squeeze in every event and party. It’s about devoting your time, thoughts, and resources to do nice things for others without obligation or recognition.
The holidays can be magical when they have a purpose greater than a $20 piece of plastic.
The difference of intentional gifting versus our old ways?
The Four Gift Rule:
1 Gift they NEED
1 Gift they WANT
1 Gift to WEAR
1 Gift to READ
Intentional gift giving is all about the building tradition and the memories and less about 'the stuff'. This is truly a time for "less IS more!"
