criminal invasion of Ukraine, and most crucially,
how we can act to help bring this terrible tragedy
to an end."
— Noam Chomsky

San Diego's Peace Community - actively engaged in peaceful solutions to pressing problems.

Local police oversight, bail outs, and Mental Health in Prisons.  Open borders and the fight for Friendship Park.  Russia and US war over Ukraine,  Climate-friendly sustainable farming and free mass transit.  Asylum for those leaving behind fear and oppression in their home countries.  Election transparency and ballot propositions.  The rights of youth, elderly, farm workers, low-income and communities traditionally oppressed.  The collision of pandemic and racism in medicine, prisons and schools.  The misdirection of our taxes and personal War Tax Redirection becoming a movement..

The power and problems of state education versus student rights.  Peace Curricula in SDUSD due to community push-back against Islamophobia in the class, bullying, and inequity.  Restorative practices supporting restorative justice.  San Diegans rise up to respond to crisis in the justice system with solutions framed in equity and Compassionate Communication..

Last year, we asked: Can we build a big house that includes all paths to peace, and supports a diverse peace community?
Yes.

 Our Peace Work in 2023

The PRC Board consults with Membership on the focus of the PRC work and actions.

The PRC  business portion of our Annual Gathering has two  parts:

  • nominations to the Board of Directors for 2023/2024 through consensus
  • introduction of proposed actions by members for the consideration/consensus by the general membership.

These suggested actions can range from changes in our existing By-laws and policies to recommendations for work projects for the next year.

In general, the PRC continues its mission to actively support peace-building in our region:

  •  support an "umbrella" Peace Coalition for the growing, evolving peace movements in San Diego
  • support a big "house" where ideas and visions about peace building integrate and multiply
  • support a diverse movement (re: age, beliefs, ethnicity, culture, education, gender and sexual identity, etc)
  • be a clearinghouse of peace resources and support for San Diego communities.
  • provide fiscal sponsorship to community groups in need of financial services
  • support the passion and activism of PRC members in their community work
  • coonect with peace actions and groups across the globe.

Thank you for your support and for your peace-building here at home and across borders.

September 21, UN International Day of Peace.
Every summer, we plan for Peace Week & Sept 21 in collaboration with community.

The PRC participates in Pace e Bene's international Week of Actions around Sept 21 every year.
We recognize that we live in a militarized society - navy, army, border patrol, sheriff and police departments - intertwined and visible all over the region.
San Diego's history is tightly woven matrix of generations of violence - by the state against the people.  Our city began in violemce.  This violence still resonates, permeating our institutions - policing, prisons, neighborhoods, even our schools and homes.
Groups across San Diego have been holding conversations and actions to call attention to peace-building and non-violence in the face of spreading hate and violence.
How do we end the violence?  Be the change we want?
