On Friday, November 18, we'll explore elements of child development and social emotional learning that are key to our work as literacy mentors. What developmental steps can you expect working with kindergarteners? How about third graders? Staff will also introduce the short social emotional learning survey for each reader that will take place three times over the year: November, February and May.
We host our morning coffee gathering from 9:00 - 9:45 A.M. These virtual gatherings are open to all Literacy Mentors, never required. Stop by to ask a question, get advice from your peers, or start your Friday with good conversation.

Pre-Fluency Follow Up Training & Practice Session
We are using a brand new pre-fluency curriculum this year, and we've learned a lot in our first few weeks of using it. This pre-fluency training and practice session will respond to your questions and discoveries. Here's what you can expect:
A review of the systematic approach to teaching letter names, sounds and words in sequence.
Guidance on which module each of your students is in.
Incorporating Newmark books for supplemental practice; not a required part of the session.
Additional pre-fluency kits so that each pre-fluency reader has their own set of materials. This way, you will be able to keep the target letters or words organized for use over multiple days.
Practice time with a partner so you feel ready to play each pre-fluency game with comfort.
Due to supply issues, Experience Corps has upgraded the volunteer vests. We’re still aiming for a December delivery date. The new, higher-quality polyfleece vests come in both women’s and men’s sizes so please provide your preference using the form below. Even if you completed an order earlier this year, please complete this new form by Friday 11/18 at noon.
We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you will feel these vests are well worth the wait!
