Dear <<First Name>>,

The BC Humanists have been doing important work promoting secularism over these past years. They have been pressuring municipalities to stop praying at council meetings.  And recently, Terrace decided to stop putting up Christian Nativity scenes.

If you are interested in doing similar work here, come join us at our AGM.

PLEASE RSVP HERE if you are attending the upcoming KASHA AGM on November 17th, 6pm, Curling Club

We will be voting for two new board members and re-electing two of our present board members. Please read below for Sherrilee's application and the second person is Janice Selbie, who runs the divorcing religion website. You can read about her on the below links.

We will also be setting some goals for the upcoming year.
If being on the board for KASHA is something you're curious about, please feel free to contact me at (grow@askuskelowna.ca) for more information. A few of the positions will be coming up soon, and we are looking to fill them. KASHA is in its fifth year (already!!) and hopes to keep forging ahead!
You can sign-up to be a member or renew for 2022-23 HERE

We will eat at 6pm and maybe start the meeting at 7:30pm.

Thinking with you,

Nina

KASHA COVID Policy:
KASHA follows the COVID guidelines laid out by the BC health authorities and therefore will not require vaccination to attend events and activities after 7 April 2022. However, given that many KASHA members are at a higher risk than the general population, it is preferred that attendees be fully vaccinated against COVID 19.

What happens when Yoga Masters & Crystal Healers meet Trucker Convoys & QAnon.... Conspirituality is the outcome!

Thanks to Joyce for a fascinating presentation on Conspirituality, there was a lot to digest. If you couldn't attend, or would like re-hash some of the points, you can go here to download Joyce's presentation and handouts.

About Sherrilee Franks -
1. Briefly describe why you would like to join KASHA’s Board of Directors.

I love planning things. I enjoy working as a Director to help assist with big picture planning. I enjoy the community feel.

2. What skills would you like to use on the Board? Can you briefly describe some of your skillsI have sat on the Board of Directors for several organizations and are able to assist in the following skill sets: Board development, strategic planning, program development, financial management and fundraising. I have managed multi-million dollar projects in Real-Estate, done start-up of hotels and resorts (such as Spirit Ridge Resort, The Strand and Bellasera to name a few local hotels and resorts) and actively manage unique properties such as Historic O’Keefe Ranch as well as Life Lease Senior Homes. Ultimately my two skill sets that allow me to thrive in these environments is my organization skills and my ability to work with people.

3. What would you like to get for yourself out of your participation on the Board, e.g., what types of experiences, skills to develop, interests to cultivate for you, etc.?

Hard question. I believe life will lead me down a path of the life which I was destined to live. Just kidding. Honestly though, I have no idea. I have loved my time with the group and feel that my experience and skills would be of value.

4. Your current or past organizational affiliations - names of the organizations and your role(s):

Historic O’Keefe Ranch – Volunteer, Board Member, Vice President, General Manager

Vernon Women in Business – Board Member, Webmaster

North Okanagan Referral Association – Member, President

Elks Vernon Lodge – Member

Options for Sexual Health – Volunteer

Thompsons Rivers University – Student Advisory Council

Professional Association of Managing Agents – Education Committee

FYI
As part of Dying with Dignity's End in Mind series, we’ll be exploring the different religious perspectives in Canada on MAID. In order to reflect the multi-cultural, multi-faith make-up of Canada, we have invited members of different faiths to join us and share their experiences and insights in this discussion. For this session, we’ll be joined by members of the Anglican, Jewish, and Presbyterian faiths. Join us on November 30, 3:00 p.m. EST to discuss this topic with Yme Woensdregt, Rabbi Eva Goldfinger, and Beverly Wilkins.

Book List

On our website, we've added a list of books; if you have anything you'd like to add to the list, feel free to email us at think@askuskelowna.ca  I've slowly been working my way through the fascinating book "Belief: What It Means to Believe and Why Our Convictions Are So Compelling" by James E. Alcock. The book is crammed with a wide range of topics: the inaccuracy of memories; the meanings of dreams (and no, not the sort of "meaning" like, if a dog bites you, it means that you're "struggling with someone's disloyalty towards you"...and if he bites you on the left hand, it means something different than if it's the right hand!); cognitive biases; alternative medicine; magic and superstition; and the origins, social aspects, and emotions that play a big role in religion.

Webinars & Town Halls on the KASHA website

Thanks to Darrel, we now have a page of interesting webinars and town hall meetings from BC Humanists, Center for Inquiry Canada, and Amnesty International that you can watch.

If you just can't watch another Netflix show or commercial TV, tune in here to see issues that are relevant to you.  KASHA WEBINAR PAGE

You can also catch up on some of our previous newsletters HERE.

Thanks, Darrel, for all your work!
We are officially an affliate local group member with BC Humanists. We receive support to help connect with humanists and atheists in our area. We become part of a larger network of non-religious people across the province by joining with other groups.

The British Columbia Humanist Association has been providing a community and voice for humanists, atheists, agnostics, and the non-religious of Metro Vancouver and British Columbia since 1982. They  support the growth of Humanist communities across BC, provide Humanist ceremonies, and campaign for progressive and secular values.

Please consider joining the BCHA if you support our combined efforts.
KASHA needs volunteers:

Forum Speakers: We are looking for volunteers to be speakers/facilitators. If you are interested in presenting, we have a set of criteria and an approval process. We want to make sure that all the topics will be of interest to our members. So no, we won't be approving of how astrology effects your mood.

You can download the forum criteria here.

Ideas: If you are a member and you have an idea for a speaker, are interested in starting another cafe meet-up in your area, like to write about KASHA topics, and/or want to protest something... let us know.

KASHA Board Meetings

If you are an official paid member and would like to read our minutes or attend a meeting, please let me know.
The dates of the meetings are on the events calendar. We are trying to meet once a month.
Warning: Our minutes are rather cryptic, but you will probably understand the main clinchers. Any warm new heartbeats detected at the meeting might also be given tasks. But we are not discouraging our members from attending; in fact, we would love it if you could come.
Please Go To our Events Calendar for up to date information on events.
