Dear food bank insider,

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and we’re counting our blessings this month! The food bank has been given so much this year, and we just want to thank all of those who make our work possible.

We are thankful for our volunteers! Clients regularly tell us how much they appreciate the friendliness of our marketplace volunteers. They also love the variety of food we are able to provide thanks to the hard work of our warehouse volunteers. Thank you!

We are thankful for our donors! Thanks to their gifts of food and finances, we are able to meet the rising need for food relief. Families have enough food to focus on succeeding, and that is directly thanks to these donations!

We are thankful for this community! Our community has proven over the last few years to be incredibly resilient and generous, and 2022 has been all that and more. Watching the community come together after the recent fire downtown and for all our neighbors in need has been incredible! Thank you all for letting us be a part of your community.

Feature Story

Community Big Give

Saturday was the Community Big Give event, and we were once again blown away at the generosity and love in this community. Over 1,200 meals were given out to families in need, and we loved seeing the community come together for a great cause.

“I appreciate the blessing of being a part of this amazing event,” said Anthony Apeles, executive director for the food bank. “Kudos to Thad and the sponsors for supporting us once again.”

The event, which started as a small 150 meal event in 2010, has grown to be the community’s collective tool to supply Thanksgiving meals to those in need each year. Thanks to the tireless volunteers and generous sponsors, families in our area are going to have a great Thanksgiving this year. Thank you to all those involved for your support!

What We’ve Been Up to Lately

November 29 is Giving Tuesday

November 29th is Giving Tuesday, and we’re celebrating it by invite others to the table to provide food support for our neighbors in need!

New Solar Panels!

Thanks to Puget Sound Energy's Green Power Solar Grant program, we were able to fundraise for a solar power array. The panels were installed in this summer and recently went into operation!

They will help the Sumner Community Food Bank produce 45% of its total energy use. This will cut both our overhead costs and our energy consumption, allowing us to help our neighbors in need while also considering our environment.

Raising Hands with Tulalip Cares

Every year The Tulalip Cares Fund gives generously to the community. They have given millions to over 300 organizations since 1993- including the Sumner Community Food Bank!

We’re grateful for the work Tulalip does, as well as the Raising Hands event which celebrates this generous community & the work of non-profits across Washington State.
