KĀKAHU KURA

He kōrero whakamaumahara tēnei.

Parents, please remind all of our uri Tau 11-13 that when they return for wānanga or exams, their uniforms need to be correct, from head to their toe.  Some seem to have a more relaxed attitude at the moment and are pushing the boundaries. Thank you for your help.

This message also applies to our Tau 9-10s.  The expectation is that all uniforms are correct until school finishes at the end of the year.  E mihi ana.

CHANGES TO NCEA & UE 2022

A reminder to whānau, the first two school terms were disrupted by COVID-19, and changes have been put in place to help give you a fair opportunity to get your NCEA or University Entrance (UE) this year.

These changes include Learning Recognition Credits (LRCs), which are based on the number of credits you achieve during the 2022 school year.

You are entitled to 1 LRC for every 5 credits earned through assessment, up to a maximum of:
Level 1 - maximum of 10 LRCs
Level 2  - maximum of 8 LRCs
Level 3 - maximum of 8 LRCs

These credits will show on your record of achievement when the external marks are published.  Find out more about earning and using Learning Recognition Credits on the NZQA website.

SPORTS FUNDING SPONSORSHIP AVAILABLE

Ngā Taiātea Wharekura has been selected to administer sporting sponsorships for our tauira, generously given by Apollo Projects.
The funds are to be used for individual students that meet the following criteria:
  • There is a demonstrable need (e.g., disadvantaged circumstances) or financial barrier to participation in sport meaning the student might not participate
  • The individual shows positive interest, ability and potential in their sport
  • Funding would assist in potentially providing a better long-term outcome for that student in sport and life
  • Funding could cover direct payment of sports fees, sporting equipment, support services, travel to events etc.

How to apply:
  • Students would apply for the Apollo Projects Sports Grant via this online form,  which would be reviewed and approved by the Sports Committee. Please note that your application is strictly confidential unless agreed otherwise with you.
  • A limit of $500 per student per annum* to be applied
  • If your application is successful, the agreed costs will be paid on behalf of the student (the funding will not be paid directly to the student).

*For this grant, the funding year is from now until 31 August 2023.

The applications are to be made ahead of time – payments will not be made after the event.

SUBJECT SELECTION FOR SENIOR CLASSES 2023

We are asking ākonga and their whānau to complete subject selections for the senior classes for 2023.  These are the ākonga who are currently Tau 10, Tau 11 and 12 this year.

Links to our online forms have been emailed to all ākonga kura email addresses and can be found below. We encourage ākonga to discuss their choices with their whānau and if you have any questions, to talk to your Kaiārahi or the subject teachers. Ākonga will stay in the subjects they select for the whole year. If your choices change between now and the beginning of 2023, you will have time to make changes to your selection at the beginning of 2023 (i.e. you are not locked into these choices right now).
These forms give us an idea of what subjects our ākonga would like to focus on in 2023 and potential class sizes for those subjects.  This information then tells us how many classes we may need per subject and which kaiako to align with those classes.
