Project Updates

A welcome return to Sierra Leone

Last month Africa Programme Manager, Ash Phillips, and Head of Marketing, Katie Wilson, returned to Sierra Leone after a two year delay due to Covid-19.  It was an opportunity to meet trainees, graduates, workshops and new businesses, and bring all our partners together for learning and networking.

During their two week trip, Ash and Katie dropped in on ambitious welding trainee Margaret, auto-mechanics graduates who have joined forces in business, and hairdresser Isatu who has her sights set on salon success.

Latest Tool Shipment

On 11th November we said goodbye to our latest shipping container as it left Netley Marsh to start its long journey to Uganda.  This shipment will deliver 227 kits, comprising 4,429 tools, to trainees in Auto Mechanics, Carpentry, Construction, Tailoring, Welding and Plumbing.

It was a particularly proud moment for Workshop Manager, Stuart Bailey, whose sponsored walk of the South West Coast Path back in May covered the cost of this shipment.  Stuart's fundraising target was £5.650 but his 630 mile walk raised a whopping £8,179!  Thank you once again to everyone who sponsored Stuart's challenge.

Supporter Survey

Thank you to everyone who completed our Supporter Survey by post or online.  We are collating the results, ready to improve our communications in the New Year.

Visits to our volunteers

Volunteer Co-ordinator, Ben Riley, went out west this week to visit our collecting groups in Clun and Bridgend.  It was an opportunity to recognise the efforts of long-standing volunteers and thank everyone who works tirelessly to refurbish tool fundraising to help our work continue.

Any good wood?

We are always in need of sheet timber like ply, OSB and chipboard,  to make our packing crates.  If you have any full sheets or offcuts over 300mm wide please bring them to our workshop at SO40 7GY.  Please note we can't take wood with nails, or pallets, as these are too difficult to break down.
