Tidbits You Will Find Handy

Focus on Gratitude! Here in the United States, the fourth Thursday in November is designated as Thanksgiving Day. Many countries focus on gratitude and abundance in this season of harvest in the northern hemisphere. Wherever you may be, focusing on gratitude is a practice that helps you to see the many blessings that abound in your life. Take a few moments each day and see how many surprising people, animals, and situations you can see as a blessing and give thanks for.
Bernadette Swanson Is Retiring at Year-End. After serving Unity Worldwide Ministries for 22 years, Communication Coordinator Bernadette Swanson, LUT, will be retiring at the end of the year. She started as the curriculum writer working with Anna Andes, LUT, in 2000 before moving to the communications team. She is looking forward to hiking in the National Parks, traveling, visiting family, baking sourdough, and gardening. Her last day in the office with her coworkers will be December 20, 2022.
Nigerian Convention. Executive Director Rev. Shad Groverland met with the delegates to the Unity Church of Practical Christianity Convention in Nigeria via Zoom on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Here are some photos that the convention wanted to share with us. We celebrate with them and are blessed by their continued devotion to the promotion and expression of Unity teachings in all that they do.

Creating Connections and Opportunities for Unity Leaders

Transitions

Rev. Carole McArthur Rose passed away on September 15, 2022. Carol was a lifelong spiritual seeker involved with several ministries including Unity of Bandon; Unity by the Bay, North Bend; and Unity Spiritual Center of Brookings; all in Oregon, and Unity of the Redwoods, Eureka, California.
She found her work with Unity very meaningful and was also a talented artist. Carole is remembered fondly as an inspirational presence and is missed by all who knew her. You can email prayers and support to Rev. David McArthur.

Rev. Randie Jacobs made her transition on November 3, 2022. Randie was ordained June 15, 2020, which was a lifelong goal of hers. Randie was loved dearly by those in her ministerial school program and was known for her humor and her loving nature. She totally enjoyed being in nature and was passionate about teaching suicide awareness to first responders and in Unity settings. No memorial service is planned at this time. You may forward stories, prayer support, and condolences for friends and family to Rev. Diana Kennedy. We know her family and friends will miss her tremendously.

Rev. Joy Wyler (ordained 2004) made her transition on November 5, 2022. Joy was a dynamic speaker with a passion for celebrating diversity. She wrote for Unity publications and served as a member and as Vice-Chair of Unity World Headquarters Board of Directors. Joy also served on a variety of ministry teams for Unity Worldwide Ministries over the years. She retired after 11 years as senior minister of Unity of Lehigh Valley, in Emmaus, Pennsylvania.

A celebration of life service for Joy will be held in the Silent Unity Atrium Chapel (200 Unity Circle) at Unity Village, Missouri, on December 3, 2022, at 3 p.m. (CT). In lieu of flowers, please support the Heart of America Humane Society, where Joy was a dedicated volunteer. Joy’s children, Kari and Victor (along with her beloved dog, Raymond), are grateful for your continuing prayer support and welcome your prayerful support.

Opportunities to Share Your Wisdom! UWM is seeking seasoned ministers who would like to share their experience, talents, and wisdom with candidates on the ministerial ordination path. At this time candidates in all four pathways (Special Dispensation, UWSI (Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute), UUMS (Unity Urban Ministerial School), and Field Ministerial Path) are in need of someone like you to walk with them on their path to becoming ordained. The right mentor will have at least three years of ministerial experience, be willing to complete mentor training, be available to spend an hour on a monthly call with their mentee, and complete the mentor reports due periodically. If you are ready for a rewarding experience as a mentor, please email evolve@unity.org to receive a mentor application.
Fossil Fuel Treaty. Unity Worldwide Ministries has joined many other faith organizations in signing onto the call for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty. In addition to faith organizations, numerous governmental entities, including the European Parliament, corporations, and individuals have signed on. The purpose of this treaty is to “phase out fossil fuels and support a just transition powered by clean energy and a sustainable future for all.” Read more about the treaty here. EarthCare: Kinship With All Life. When we pray for the highest good for all beings, are we clearly seeing in our minds the animals with whom we share this grand web of life? The popular naturalist Henry Beston said, “We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time.” We have so much to learn from them when we let them bless our lives.
