NINE DUT STUDENTS WIN AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN UNIVERSITY ESSAY COMPETITION

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in South Africa awarded nine Durban University of Technology students for submitting outstanding essays in the South African University Essay Competition themed: Xi Jinping’s Thought Through South African Students’ Eyes. The awards ceremony was held in Tshwane (Pretoria) on Saturday, 12 November 2022.

The DUT winners were part of a group that comprised of 59 students from six South African universities, who were acknowledged for their excellent writing. The six participating universities were, Durban University of Technology (DUT), University of Johannesburg (UJ), University of Cape Town (UCT), Stellenbosch University (SU), Rhodes University (RU) and the University of Western Cape (UWC).

DUT HOSTS TWO-DAY INTERNATIONAL FRAUD AND CORRUPTION RISK CONFERENCE TO BUILD MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL PARTNERSHIPS AND IMPROVE LIVES AND LIVELIHOODS ACROSS SOCIETY

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted an important, two-day International Fraud and Corruption Risk Conference at the Coastlands Musgrave Hotel on Monday, 14 November 2022 and Tuesday, 15 November 2022.
The theme of the conference was: “Reshaping the Quality of Conversations, Deepening the Sense of Accountability, in Re-tilting the Socioeconomic Landscape.”

DUT HOSTED ITS SECOND ANNUAL VUNA LEADERSHIP ACADEMY AWARDS (VUNALA)

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Department of Student Governance and Development hosted its Second Annual Vuna Leadership Academy (VunaLA) Awards at the Indumiso campus in Pietermaritzburg on Monday,14 November 2022.

The ceremony was held to celebrate student’s behaviour that is aligned with the values advocated in the ENVISION2030 strategy of the university. The awards were bestowed on the most talented, exceptional students and young leaders from both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

DUT DONORS HONOURED FOR IMPROVING THE LIVES OF THE STUDENTS

The Advancement and Alumni Relations office at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted the Donor Recognition event at the DUT Hotel School, Ritson Campus on Friday, 11 November 2022. The university donors were acknowledged and appreciated for their efforts in making a difference in the lives of the students.

The programme director was the Advancement and Alumni Relations Director, Mr Zwakele Ngubane who began by expressing his gratitude to all the DUT donors for all the wonderful contributions and support over the years.

KNOWING, DOING, IMPACTING AND TRANSFORMING-FACULTY PERSPECTIVES ON ENVSION2030 AT DUT DATA DAY

The final day of the 2022 DUT Data Day was recently held as a hybrid event at Coastlands on the Ridge. The programme included two parts aligned to the Data Day theme, namely Knowing, Doing, Impacting and Transforming and commenced with a poster presentation by faculty Academic Development Practitioners (ADPs) and Quality Promotion Officers (QPOs). The second part of the programme was a panel discussion with the Executive Deans and representatives to share their thoughts on how the faculties are leveraging data to meet their goals for ENVISION2030. This session was facilitated by International Education & Partnership’s (IEP) Director, Dr Lavern Samuels.

The brief for the posters was to showcase evidence-informed faculty efforts to improve student success and the student lived experience aligned to ENVISION2030.

DUT LIBRARY COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL OPEN ACCESS WEEK

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently hosted an annual luncheon at the Rendezvous Restaurant to celebrate the awarding of the 33rd Sharon Wilson Award for the Top Annual English and Communication Student.

In attendance at the event were the staff from English and Communication with Ms Terry Herd, Senior Lecturer: English and Communication, serving as the Programme Director.

This year, 2022, the award has been given to second-year Screen Arts and Technology student Owethu Carina Khanyi.

Sponsor of the award, Mr Wilson gave insight into the Sharon Wilson award which was established more than 30 years ago for the top English and Communication student to honour Mr Clive Wilson’s late wife, Sharon Wilson, who used to work in English and Communication at DUT.
