Hello Horticultural Society Members,

I hope you are enjoying all this snow. We knew that it had to start sooner or later. Personally, I was voting for later.

This coming Tuesday, November 22nd is our 2022 AGM. We will be meeting in person in the auditorium at the Community Centre at 7pm.

We are so excited to announce that our guest speaker for the evening will be Paul Zammit. For Paul, taking on a new adventure as professor in Niagara College’s Environment division, after serving as director of horticulture at the Toronto Botanical Garden for ten years is merely the latest step in his path of life-long learning. Paul will be speaking on "Inviting Guests Into Your Garden – The Importance of Creating Habitat For Pollinators". If you have heard Paul speak previously, you know what a dynamic speaker he is. You are in for a real treat.

Come early to grab a cup of coffee or tea and some treats. Don't forget to lug-a-mug so that we can keep our use of disposable cups to a minimum. We are also encouraging members to wear a mask for your own protection.

Traditionally at our AGM, we collect donated food and household items to an organization in need. This year it was suggested that we collect items for Ukrainian families. Here are some suggestions as to what they could use:

  • Coffee & Tea
  • Sugar, Flour, Cooking Oil
  • Jam, Honey
  • Cereal, Oatmeal, Buckwheat/kasha
  • Powdered & evaporated milk
  • Canned fruit & vegetables
  • Sauerkraut/cabbage
  • Soup
  • Pasta & rice
  • Baby cereals & food
  • Diapers
  • Toothpaste and brushes
  • Deodorants, disposable razors, shampoos, soap, toilet paper.

Also, our half of the 50/50 draw will be donated as well.

Take some time to read through the following documents before the meeting on Tuesday night - Minutes from the 2021 AGM,
Agenda for the 2022 AGM,
2022 Financial Statements,
Proposed list of 2023 Board Members.

January is Membership Renewal month. We have now posted the 2023 Renewal/Registration Form on our website so that you can renew your membership online. You can also submit your membership fee online as well. If you wish to renew in person, print off and fill in the form and bring it with you along with your fee to the January meeting. Feel free to invite a neighbour or friend to join up at that time as well.

A couple weeks ago we informed you of a talk being hosted by Niagara Master Gardeners about Invasive Species. In case you were not able to attend that evening, they have shared some links below for you to check out.
