The order for Morning Prayer is on the Scottish Episcopal Church website and is updated daily. About twenty minutes: a psalm, a couple of readings, some silence, prayers for the day. Morning Prayer uses the Cathedral Prayer Diary for November.

The Cathedral AGM is on Sunday 20 November. Nomination forms for Vestry members, Lay Representative and Alternate Lay Representative are downloadable here and will be available in church.
People who are standing need two nominees and they also need to sign the form themselves. All three signatories need to be on the Cathedral Roll as communicant members over 18. Nominations need to be in by 18 November.

TAPESTRY STITCHERS
Would you like to help create the Dundee Tapestry? Join the group of Tapestry Stitchers in the Lower Hall on Fridays, 10.00 - 12 noon. They're working on the panel that shows the V&A. If you would like to put a stitch (or more!) into the panel, please come along to see what it's all about. Also, some panels have not yet been allocated to groups, so there is need for more stitchers; so if you're at all interested, come and see the group at 10.00 on a Friday. You will be most welcome!

MARCH FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE
Edinburgh, 12th November, a March for Climate Justice as part of the Global Day of Action called by Egyptian groups at COP27. The Edinburgh march will be a year on since the historic COP26 Global Day of Action in Glasgow - one of the biggest climate marches in UK history. What is #CookForUkraine? It's a way to support Ukraine, set up by the cook and writer Olia Hercules, who is Ukrainian and lives in the UK. Olia will be visiting St Andrews to introduce and cook from her new book, Home Food: Recipes to Comfort and Connect. Olia Hercules has become a fierce and passionate activist since the war on Ukraine began and has set up the global movement #cookforukraine.

This is one of the war memorial panels in the Lady Chapel. One of the people remembered here is Kenneth Fairley Strathern (the second name from the bottom).
Kenneth Strathern died when his aircraft crashed near Wesel, on the east bank of the Rhine, and is buried at the Reichswald cemetery. But before that he fought in Operation Market Garden, near Arnhem. In a village there called Renkum there is a commemoration of the battle every year, focusing on someone who was involved. This year they are remembering Kenneth Strathern, so some people from Renkum visited the Cathedral this summer to see his memorial here and to find out more about him. There is a display in the Cathedral with more information about him, and below is a short account of his life.
Captain Kenneth Fairley ‘Jock’ Strathern
1913-1945
Kenneth Strathern was born in Glasgow on 24 January 1913. The family later moved to Dundee, where his father, the Reverend Robert Strathern, was the priest at St Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Lochee from 1927-1935.
After studying at St Andrews University, in October 1939 Strathern signed up to the Cameron Highlanders. Known as ‘Jock’, he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1941 and transferred to the Glider Pilot Regiment in November 1943. Horsa gliders were used for reconnaissance and aerial photography.
In September 1944, Strathern’s unit flew to Oosterbeek in the Netherlands, to take part in the Arnhem offensive. Despite heavy mortar fire, Strathern led numerous patrols against the enemy, displaying outstanding initiative and courage, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valour.
On return to England, Strathern was promoted to Captain, and in March 1945, he flew to northern Germany to join Operation Varsity, the major allied attack on the Rhine crossings. In the initial phase of the airborne assault, Strathern encountered flak and poor visibility near Wesel (on east bank of the Rhine) and crashed on landing. Captain Strathern died on 24 March 1945 at the age of 31. He is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery in Westphalia.
In St Paul’s Cathedral, Kenneth Strathern is commemorated on the World War II memorial in the Lady Chapel. A silver ciborium (vessel for communion bread) was donated in his memory.
